I've apologized for that post enough times. I didn't see the point to the grilling before, and I think you could sure lay off now seeing as how apologies were made.

For crying out loud, it's a simple question. Would the XP1800 processor run cooler than a Duron 1100?

This would mean EQUAL fan, EQUAL cooling solution. The fact that my processor runs around 47deg at BIOS right now is kind of moot and not necessary to this equasion.

With an attitude like that I am suprised anyone is bothering to help you.

That is RUDE and un-neccesary.

I do not feel obligated to answer your question now :|
See above ^. Since you seem to assume that all Duron 1100s run at the same temp (since it was such an inconvenience for us to ask what your Duron 1100s temp was for comparison) Let it all burn in hell........ :p

he..or in that Shuttle case..:Q;)a Duron will run hotter than just about any other AMD esp. Athlon..as the Duron's die is physically smaller..less surface area to dissipate heat..instance..Duron 1.2 using GC68 running at (case/mobo/memory stayed the same thruout this lil test..no case fans running ..room ambient at 77F..) 112F and an XP1800+ TBred A 96F ..core die size/overall wattage/voltage affects all these ...:)

Ya you might think that. But it doesn't work that way..... If you're gonna give crap (esp' when you're asking for help) then prepare to receive crap. Obviously you came here to ask the question because you thought we'd know or we'd have knowledge that you DO NOT. So why would you respond with so much STUPID attitude, just because you don't see how a question applies doesn't mean it isn't applicable (after all you came to ask us because you didn't know and we did).

Anyway it's time for this thread and conversation to die so I'll let it........

So far (all flames aside) it's about 50-50. Some say the XP will run equal or hotter because it's faster. Others say the Duron is hotter because of older technology and smaller die. I'm inclined to believe that they are pretty close in temperature, but if the core is larger, the XP might well be easier to cool than the Duron.

If I could have afforded the XP right away, I'd have gone for it. ;)

As it is, I'll try to slug it out with the Duron... I don't get overheating unless I really burden the CPU (Prime95) and even that's after 30 minutes of the torture test. I'd like to upgrade the video (from the onboard bandwidth-stealing VIA Savage) before I upgrade the CPU.... but we'll see how it goes. At least the auto-shutdown means I'm less likely to burn the sucker to a crisp. :p

Aw man... now you got me going to the kitchen to make something similar to what you mentioned. :D Sounds good!
If I can't fry my CPU, an egg will do. :p
