AMD CPU recently died - can I request an RMA even if not the original owner?

My AMD X2 S939 4600 CPU recently died (along with my Hiper 580 W psu). I purchased it from a seller on hardforum.com approximately 2 months ago. While in my possession, the cpu was not subjected to any undue stresses as I never overclock my hardware.

After testing, I'm positive these components have failed. I've contacted Hiper and I have already received an RMA from them. However, as I am not the original owner of the cpu, will I be able to receive RMA support from AMD for this processor, assuming it is still under warranty? Will I have to have prove of purchase or any documentation such as a receipt in order to receive a warranty? Currently, I only have the retail box and original hsf that came with the cpu.

I don't have much experience with RMA's but I think you'll need only the product id #
