Amd Cpu Compatibility?

I own an Asus A7Pro and my 850 Duron just broke. The A7Pro only supports processors with a 200mhz FSB, however I want to replace the processor with my XP 1700+ so I can get a new one. I was wondering if I could use a 266mhz FSB processor in this board and just run it underclocked. Here is a link to Asus' Compatible processors. I would appreciate some input guys. You see, the reason being is I was going to get an Athlon 1.1ghz for 31$, however I can get another Athlon Xp for 40$. So, I wouldn't mind trying my luck with the XP.

Thanks for the help,
Peter

Asus Cpu Support

Yeah you could do that, but I don't see why you wouldn't upgrade your motherboard first and then your CPU...or both at the same time.

Thanks infinite, has anyone else done this? I hope it makes sense, I'm just trying to use a 266mhz fsb processor in a 200 motherboard. Its easy for people to recommend an upgrade, however I'm just trying to get an old system to function for someone to use at a lan party!

Double-check your voltage requirements vs your mobo's output to make sure it is compatible. I think it would, as many mobo's will work on just about any Socket A flavor.

Thanks, I assume my A7 can handle anything in that range. Its got all the jumpers I need and the jumperless bios!

Asus website shows A7PRO with bios 1008 will run a 1400 bird.
There is a new bios 1011 also.
An XP1700 has an 11x multiplier (correct me if I'm wrong) giving 1100 mhz.
Should still run pretty good.
