I thought the main idea behind cool and quiet, rightly named, was to make the cpu fans spin down on loud fans to run quieter when not needed. Hence the name, 'Quiet'... Of course also to put the cpu in idle when not needed too, just using what processing it needed and conserve when not needed...

Anyhow I've enabled Cool'n'Quiet in the bios and installed the drivers but the cpu fan cranks away at max. without any difference, but then if it's suppose to do this, does it have to be on a fan with multi speed capabilites?

THANKS

No... Cool'n'Quiet is power management - it clocks the CPU down to various P-states based on load. When you're not doing so much, the CPU clock goes down fairly low, hence takes less power, doesn't run as hot, and assuming your motherboard supports PWM on the CPU fan, will then cause the fan to slow down. If your motherboard for some reason doesn't support PWM or CPU fan management, or if you have it turned off like I do on mine, the fan will run full speed regardless of Cool'n'Quiet (though your CPU will still get downclocked).

Yep, it only slows the CPU and loweres the voltage.

Ok thanks, I read online that in the Power Options you want to place it on, 'Minimual Power Management'. Is that true?

So SunnyD you saying there might be a power management option in the bios shut off or in relation to fan speed I should look for that will spin the fan down?

THANKS

P.S. Nothing in the BIOS for fan speed, only SMART for Temps and ACPI is enabled, that's all...

I think in the bios there is an option for SmartQ fan...I think that will spin the fan down but might be with the 4 pin fans though.

Every mobo and bios is different. I have a Gigabyte board, and on my particular board I have CnQ options along with specific options on how to handle the fan speeds on the CPU and SYSTEM fan. Not knowing what your motherboard is, I can't be any more specific than that, sorry.

THANKS

Took a look at the manual they have posted - I'd like to say that is one of the most lackluster motherboard manuals I have seen since one of the Biostar 486 mobo manuals.

As far as it goes, my only guess as to where the fan control settings are located - I'm going to say they *might* be under H/W Monitor. Some boards (like mine) have them under the monitor sections, some board only have monitoring under there with no settings. Take a look for any "FAN Control" settings there, or under Power Management or Integrated Peripherals. There's an outside chance they'll be under Frequency/Voltage Control as well.

I'd poke around - look for anything relating to the FAN settings. Good luck!

No fan anything, oh well it's been built and in the customers hands, so it's all good and done, also the customer said when it came from Dell it was alway cranking away...

THANKS
