AMD chooses Rambus technology for processor chipsets

This is another story shamelessly stolen from the one-and-only newsmeister JC.

AMD announced today it has licensed the Direct Rambus? high-bandwidth memory interface for use in forthcoming logic chips, and that the technology will be the main memory interface for future personal computer products.

Let's hope development does not occur. At least AMD is not shoving this down our throat and say upgrade
 
Actually AMD has held a Rambus license almost as long as Intel.
They may have just announced it recently but they've had it for a while.

Right now they are working on a DDR SDRAM chipset family, they hold a license so they can research and build prototypes for Rambus, that way if it happens that rambus's memory become's widely accepted, then they aren't left out in the cold, they are simply covering their a$$, as any wise businessman should.
 
So it's OK for AMD to possibly use RAMBUST, but not Intel?

That's like saying "blow" is OK as long as you just snort it, and not smoke or inject it.

No, it is ok to have Rambus as a secondary option. Having it as a main option, however, is ludicrious. I would have no harsh words for Intel if they would make the DDR chipset be lead, and put the 850 as secondary.
