Did you then try a complete uninstall and reinstall. (guessing you did but just in case).

Wellllllll. Little Virgorising just had a major catastrophe! See, last nite, I did get the AMD clean up tool, but I was afraid to run it cause it removes EVERYTHING.

But, few mins ago, I decided to try it anyhow. My poor puter went batdoody!!! screen flashing, big graphics, black screen, little graphics, black screen, it went BATDOODY....was like an endless SEIZURE.....I powered off, powered on....and got the first BSOD of this system's life, could no way boot into my WD black. All of me went right down to my toes and hid.

Ask me why I did not, immediately run to the window and leap out. Was cause I do internal backup. IS WHY.

I am now in my backup drive, a Seagate, much slower than WD Black, which I borked (thank U AMD).......8 cache vs the 32 of my WD.....and, I will now clone this drive to my borked drive.....I think I did last clone of the WD to this drive just after the last hotfixes arrived.

This will take a bit, so I will return when everything is back to normal and I can write from my restored WD.

K, I am back in my restored to health via reverse clone WD black. But that was scary a little.

And good I often burn my work to CDs and DVDs.....so I only lost one or two files and can get them back from the editors I sent them to. Just rewrites, so no biggie.

I knew last nite I should not run that thing.....but today, I got stupid and reckless.

I know it's irrational, and the terrible borking of this now restored drive was my bad.....but I am starting to hate ATI AMD.

I will join in on the hate. I was having a display issue that seemed S/W related so I attempted to upgrade to a new version of CCC/driver for my 5870M - It simply refused to install. It all revolved around deleting the c:\AMD folder that I foolishly deleted. As you did an image saved me. Glad to hear you fixed yours!
I have advised people to use CCleaner, Driver Sweeper (over at NotebookReview's forum) in various windows modes but will never give that advise again.

But I notice so many GPU messes posted on this site by members who have Nvidia cards!

Just think what would have happened to us had we not done good backup!!!!o_O

Still trying to figure this stupid thing out and get this CCC to work normally.

I came upon this:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/43526-63-catalyst-control-center-open

Half way thru, I got nauseated.

I looked, and my AMD service is set to automatic and says it's running.

But, it is NOT. Well, not normally.

I am now afraid to dump ANY AMD folders.....even short of using the, Go ahead, fool, run me; I will bork yr entire drive, MAKE IT DO SEIZURE LOOPS AND RENDER IT UNBOOTABLE!..... AMD cleanup tool I ran.

From the link above:

Check this solutions, it may work for you:

"What I did was uninstall all of your AMD/ATI software. Once this is down, proceed to go into your C:/Local disk/program files/. Once in here, delete your ATI, and also your ATI Technology folders. If you can’t delete the folders for some reason, just go into the folders and delete what you can. IN OTHER WORDS, TRY TO DELETE ALL OF ATI AND AMD STUFF OUT OF YOUR PROGRAM FILES. Then after this is done, go back to C:/Local disk/. Once in here just delete the file named AMD. If you can’t delete it for some reason, go in and delete what you can. Once this is done, go to where you have downloaded the ATI driver and double-click on it, so it starts to extract. Once extracted click cancel. Then go back into C:/Local disk/. Find AMD again but this time open it, then open up the folder called support. Once in here open up the version which was just extracted, then once it has opened, open up the folder called config. Once in here, find a file called InstallManager. Open this up in notepad, or wordpad either one it doesn’t matter. Once this is opened scroll down to the bottom and find the one where it says Workaroundinstall =false. Change this to true.
Save
it close the file, them re-install CCC.
And presto!!! Once you have installed it and restarted your
computer
, your CCC will open!!!".

"My solution was to clear out the Windows GAC (Global Assembly Cache). In Windows 7, you can browse directly to “C:Windowsassembly”. Sort by “Public Key Token”, then delete everything with the Token “90ba9c70f846762e” (ATI’s key). You’ll obviously need Administrator privileges. No reboot needed either. Reinstalled CCC and it ran perfectly!"

"Manual install from the command prompt
Did this from my admin
account
, saw CCC load and become available. But when I logged on my account CCC was there but would not load. Was going to do the whole uninstall and install again, but when I logged on the admin account there was CCC all loaded and looking smug. clicked on the program and it popped open. then it hit me ‘PERMISSIONS’
I changed the permissions to FULL for my account and it worked like a champ.

WUT? Not ashamed to say, after my drive borking/batdoody....I am afraid to try any of this. Why should anyone have to thru any of that???

Maybe intel should start making GPUs.

Yikes. Uninstalling it right now. Never used it to begin with, but if it's that flaky, it's gone.

Keep in mind that is from 2011! Probably doesn't have crap to do with your current scenario Virgo.

Check to insure you have Netframeworks 4.x installed. It has to be installed in order for CCC to run correctly. Sometimes it says that's what needs installed, and sometimes it does not.

Check with windows update first I guess. If it shows an update for netframeworks, then install it and try again.

I appreciate yr trying to help.

First, I've had Netframework 4 since the second it was released. And, as is the rest of this system, it is also fully patched.

Again, my CCC installed successfully and ran normally for a long time.....and then, it just got messed up.

Truth is is, CCC is not needed. But I am not happy when something I choose to retain does not work normally.

Not that the issues posted are identical to mine.....but apparently, there is some known bug with CCC and Windows 7....which is what I run.

I just don get why mine was normal for so long and then turned flaky.

Thanks again.

OMG. Came home, logged on......then, my Norton IS popped THIS up, below: I have NO CLUE. If the latest CCC was infected, how come Norton did not get that yesterday?

OK....I am disgusted and angry now. I wanna get rid of this CCC thingy altogether, OK? I uninstalled it, but looked and residues are lurking in the registry.

Since borking this poor drive running that AMD tool, I am a little tremulous. Plus, I newly downloaded latest CCC from AMD, not some rogue site, in hopes of making CCC functional again....and all of a sudden, Norton decided it was infected.

PLEASE, can someone calm and sane and objective look at below and tell me which key folders...ATI, etc., I can just dump safely?

Thank you.

WOW! As long as you are sure all traces of the supposed virus are gone and you have a good image/backup to fall back on I would try the procedure here to clear out the registry and folders: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...lity-released-get-yours-here.html#post7163230
See "How to set up (thanks to ... )" in the first post, I know it refers to an old version of CCC but S/B applicable to the more recent versions.
Disclaimer : I would consider this a last resort. Hopefully someone will have a less drastic solution.
Good luck!

OMG, thank U! I do not understand how I got infected, or why Norton did not catch it in last 2 days, but only today when I came home, cause it scans invisibly at least once day.:(

I will use the link and kill the evil reg keys.....hopefully, retaining any I need.

K wait.....was just speeding thru the data on the site u linked me to; pls know my Lynnfield i7 870 chip can not employ integrated graphics, it was born without them, it needs a discreet GPU or else it has SEIZURES and then makes a BSOD. So, if I remove my AMD drivers.....well, that's what the AMD cleanup tool did and that is how I borked this whole drive.

It was NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE.

Just to say, cause I am in fear, I have not removed the ATI/AMD reg keys. My older CCC build still does not FUNCTION.

What I might do, is boot into my backup drive, and remove them there. If I bork that drive, and mess up my GPU and the Seagate goes batdoody and has graphics seizures.... I will just do a clone from this WD Black to it.
