Hey guys,
I'd like to start out by saying that normally, I manage to figure out problems with my pc's on my own, but since I have never owned a crossfire system, this is so new to me I'm just left in the lurch on what's going on.
Basically, I've custom built a radical pc, I used a Asus Crosshair V Formula Z motherboard, I purchased AMD Ram capable of 2400mhz, I got a liquid cooled Athlon FX 9590 and a liquid cooled AMD Radeon R9 295x2, all incased in an XFX PC Case, with XFX 1250 watt power supply, the Graphics card is also XFX.
Now, in doing this, I was certain that I had a computer that would blow through anything I threw at it. I've used the Asus motherboard to get some simply amazing numbers. If I leave the RAM set to standard 1866 speeds, I can overclock the CPU easily to over 6ghz, without even making my fans spin up, and if I set the Ram to it's highest 2400mhz setting, I'm limited to around 4.77Ghz, so for one, I am really struggling to decide which would give me the better performance. So purely out of opinions, what do you guys think is more important for gaming, faster Ram, or faster CPU speeds?
The reason I am asking is because since this is my very first experience with Crossfire, I am dumbfounded when trying to get good performance from that damn game, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare. I've read in a ton of places that this game is just miserable for crossfire. And to date, I would have to agree. When I originally built this pc, I made sure to buy a 500Gig SSD from Samsung with the fastest read write speeds I could find, they were claiming speeds above anything I could find from Intel, and all the other big names, so I wanted to be sure my OS as well as my highly advanced games ran from this drive, while my older, less graphically impressive games run off a brand new 3TB Seagate HDD.
Even with Solid state drives, ultra fast components all around, every time I turn on Advanced Warfare, I feel like I'm playing with an inferior pc. Now, let me explain, I use a LG 55UB8500-UA 4k TV. Now, the book that came with my set, claimed that three of the ports, the HDMI Ports are for 1080P with full 3d, and the 3rd port I believe, was the port reserved for 4K Resolutions, but required a HDMI 2.0 cable, which they supply. Now, on Amazon, someone claimed that this was inaccurate, and that all ports are 4k capable. Now, I could care less, I've used the one my book mentions and I've never had any problems. My PC runs my settings at 3200x1800 full 3d. Now, when I originally installed my OS, I installed the Display driver that you can download directly from AMD, which if I recall correctly, was called something funny, like the Omega driver. Now, that driver was horrible when playing COD Advanced Warfare, so I eventually downloaded the Beta driver, a downgrade I believe, which was supposedly designed with Crossfire in mind just for this game and Assassins Creed Unity. Now, Even with that driver, whenever I start the game, the intro video just plays pathetically. I mean, honestly, the PS4 and Xbox One would destroy the intro video, but of course that's due to the hardware being In Order Processing designed specifically for this game in mind, or whatever game for that matter. But as I understood things, The components I was buying were claiming to be so incredibly powerful, Hell, my Graphics card even popped up a nice little thank you message when first installed thanking me for purchasing what they referred to as Professional Grade Graphics, I'm assuming it's a direct reference to NVidia's claims that their 3k dual GPU graphics card was a "Supercomputer" for your home and was capable of rendering graphics on par with CGI Movies, with Ray Tracing, and a ton of other catch phrases, and as I understood, the R9 295x2 had more Ram on board, as well as higher clock rates, just an all around better card, as several publications claimed.
Now, I know it's been a long tradition for people from NVidia to crap on AMD for having inferior drivers, and claiming that they get their drivers nearly instantly when new games come out, which is something I believe, as it's just too often you hear the same thing, but seriously, I thought these cards were "Supercomputers", so how is it possible that something that is supposedly Pre rendered anyway can play while stuttering, and when you watch the people speaking, even though they look like your watching a freaking movie, they are that realistic and clear, there is still the issue with the stuttering, the sound pops in and out, and worse, the voices are far ahead of the facial animations. Nearer the end of the intro, when the sarge is talking to his men, the syncing of the animation and the voices does get a bit better, but still, its annoyingly jarring.
I've fiddled with the settings, turning them down, even making sure that the specific setting it mentions that is horrible with crossfire and SLI is turned off, and no matter what I do, that intro video is crap. What am I doing wrong? I tried the Omega driver, junk, I downgraded to the beta for the two games with supposed optimizations, still junk, My graphics card is supposed to have four gigs of video memory for each GPU, but where it mentions video ram, it claims I have like 2800mb's, not the full 4000, Am I missing something? Or is this simply a case of AMD having horrible drivers for that one game, and nothing is going to fix it until they hammer out newer, finalized drivers for the game? Now, Once the game gets going, things are much nicer, but I even had it crash once, after it ran buttery smooth for a while, so I'm lost.
I can run Titanfall with 4k settings, and everything on high, and I get silky smooth frame rates throughout, but nothing I do improves Call of Duty, Advanced Warfare, am I alone? Are the people showing the video's online running NVidia and that's why their intro looks silky smooth? How is it possible that such powerful systems can still struggle with a re rendered visual? Any ideas?
So please remember, I'm new to Crossfire, so it's not like I am claiming to know anything in particular, I just need some friendly advice, and maybe someone knows something I'm missing. Thanks
