Can someone explain to me, why my CCC information is all around the place?

Granted I was adventurous and installed the new driver over the old, which was 14.9 beta 2 btw, but it was still saying 14.7 back then.

Of course the installer reported everything OK. Maybe it is, dunno. I mean the D3D driver which is the most important, seems to be in order and updated.

On the plus side, the system is stable with this driver. I have no freezes as I had with the whole 14.9 branch, until I disabled ULPS. The thing is that MSI Afterburner still reports ULPS as disabled, which might be the reason why the system is still stable.

I am going to DDU it and reinstall and retest everything, but I insist that catalyst should have a "clean install" option, like Nvidia does. I find it silly to use third party tools to uninstall a driver.

Ok so I used DDU and reinstalled and everything is fine now.

Only the Audio driver still reports 7.12.0.7719 but heh who cares.

Also after DDU and the new installation, ULPS is now enabled and I have no more freezes when using crossfire. I am glad that AMD listened! :)

Fingers crossed it will stay that way, cause I only tested Valley but it always froze before.

This is exactly what's pissing me off the most with AMD.

Driver component, package, file versions...... ALL OVER THE PLACE

Description:
package contains the following graphics drivers and dependent/required software for the products specified in the current version's official release notes for the 64 bit version of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1:

Display Driver ver. 14.301.1001

haha what... 14.301.1001?? lol where... how... why

No bro. Beta or WHQL, it's same every-time.

I am talking about having to hunt for driver component version, then writing it down in a driver diary, and having to to compare before/afterwards.

I am talking about having no idea which version gets replaced with a new one during installation

God knows how many users are cluelessly walking around and gaming with ancient Cata thinking they have the latest.
When is the last time you saw this in NV driver thread:

I see...

and you don't care because you see this as just another attack at AMD,
or you really don't care which driver(s) are under your Cata hood?

I mean this is AMD Catalyst driver thread...

No I dont think this is an attack, I just don't think that many people[or atleast I don't myself] care about the catalyst sub-package version numbers as compared to the drivers main version number.

It's funny how every time new amd driver comes out, the same people have hard time installing it. I've installed, reinstalled, went nv-amd-nv. Heck, I even had two drivers installed in the same time, swapping GPUs couple times in a day. 0 problems.

The installer is made to be idiot-proof...

well it's kinda crucial in order to conclude whether installation went OK

on AMD 14.11.1 Beta driver download page they mention
Display Driver ver. 14.301.1001

while on CCC -> Information ->Software you can see whole bunch of numbers and driver components,
but no sign of "Display Driver" string -OR "14.301.1001"

So does AMD auto-update the gpu drivers now? I leave my computer on sleep mode overnight, and when I turned it on this morning, there was some box on the screen supposedly from AMD with a prompt to update the driver. I was sort of suspicious that it might be malware, and also not sure I wanted to update the gpu driver anyway, so I closed it out.

Was this legit, and what driver version was it trying to install? I did not write down exactly what the message said. What is the latest stable driver version? I have not been having any problems, so I dont want to install something that will cause instability.

My gpu is a HD7770.

The only driver that I've had a problem with (install/uninstall) in recent memory is the 14.9 which required DDU to uninstall then do a clean install. 14.11.1 was simply uninstall the old, install the new, done.

f1sherman I suspect something is wrong in your system if you have the problem on every single driver update.

Anyone have a 6870 and play Smite with these? Last set of drivers caused me grief especially in Smite.

@wand3r3r

The truth is... the world would be a better place, if every non-mission critical rig would run as gracefully as mine.

Same as you, I had to use DDU only once (14.11.1).
So it's far from me having the problem on every single update.
And when I do, I sort this out in a matter of minutes, as evidenced in 2(3?) threads here.

Speaking for myself, I've had many AMD gpus in the past and I know what AMD can and can't do, regarding drivers. If their drivers sucked that bad, you wouldn't see two systems with dual AMD gpus in my signature.

That being said, when a stupid driver comes along and the stupidity continues, people must voice their concern.

As I said before, my problems started with Catalyst 14.9. I even did a clean install of my system and still had problems. I found out myself that somehow it was a ULPS issue. I mean you can't just double click the driver executable the wrong way. AMD has a larger responsibility for the problem than the user has.

Regarding the wrong catalyst strings, sure it's not the end of the world, but if a driver can't get a simple thing as a version string right, who tells me that it will not be something more serious later on that it can't get straight. What if a future driver depends on the strings of a previous driver, to decide what it should install and screws everything up?

In any case, beta or not, everything should be right. Thankfully, they seem to having things straightened out.

Also I don't like Nvidia releasing three WHQLs in the same period AMD released two betas.

I hope 14.12 will be WHQL next month... I cannot wait for 15.01 to be a WHQL, I need new valid drivers to bench... NOW.

Took me less than 5 minutes to uninstall, install new ones and set my eyefinity desktop.

Some people may have problem with their rig, or maybe the complication is closer than we think... like between the monitor and the chair.

Also, what is the "R9 390X" file on the desktop?
Sorry, I couldn't hold myself from inspecting you desktop.

Never tried it, steam sales make me buy everything. :awe:

And this is the file in question:

Hey guys,

I'd like to start out by saying that normally, I manage to figure out problems with my pc's on my own, but since I have never owned a crossfire system, this is so new to me I'm just left in the lurch on what's going on.

Basically, I've custom built a radical pc, I used a Asus Crosshair V Formula Z motherboard, I purchased AMD Ram capable of 2400mhz, I got a liquid cooled Athlon FX 9590 and a liquid cooled AMD Radeon R9 295x2, all incased in an XFX PC Case, with XFX 1250 watt power supply, the Graphics card is also XFX.

Now, in doing this, I was certain that I had a computer that would blow through anything I threw at it. I've used the Asus motherboard to get some simply amazing numbers. If I leave the RAM set to standard 1866 speeds, I can overclock the CPU easily to over 6ghz, without even making my fans spin up, and if I set the Ram to it's highest 2400mhz setting, I'm limited to around 4.77Ghz, so for one, I am really struggling to decide which would give me the better performance. So purely out of opinions, what do you guys think is more important for gaming, faster Ram, or faster CPU speeds?

The reason I am asking is because since this is my very first experience with Crossfire, I am dumbfounded when trying to get good performance from that damn game, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare. I've read in a ton of places that this game is just miserable for crossfire. And to date, I would have to agree. When I originally built this pc, I made sure to buy a 500Gig SSD from Samsung with the fastest read write speeds I could find, they were claiming speeds above anything I could find from Intel, and all the other big names, so I wanted to be sure my OS as well as my highly advanced games ran from this drive, while my older, less graphically impressive games run off a brand new 3TB Seagate HDD.

Even with Solid state drives, ultra fast components all around, every time I turn on Advanced Warfare, I feel like I'm playing with an inferior pc. Now, let me explain, I use a LG 55UB8500-UA 4k TV. Now, the book that came with my set, claimed that three of the ports, the HDMI Ports are for 1080P with full 3d, and the 3rd port I believe, was the port reserved for 4K Resolutions, but required a HDMI 2.0 cable, which they supply. Now, on Amazon, someone claimed that this was inaccurate, and that all ports are 4k capable. Now, I could care less, I've used the one my book mentions and I've never had any problems. My PC runs my settings at 3200x1800 full 3d. Now, when I originally installed my OS, I installed the Display driver that you can download directly from AMD, which if I recall correctly, was called something funny, like the Omega driver. Now, that driver was horrible when playing COD Advanced Warfare, so I eventually downloaded the Beta driver, a downgrade I believe, which was supposedly designed with Crossfire in mind just for this game and Assassins Creed Unity. Now, Even with that driver, whenever I start the game, the intro video just plays pathetically. I mean, honestly, the PS4 and Xbox One would destroy the intro video, but of course that's due to the hardware being In Order Processing designed specifically for this game in mind, or whatever game for that matter. But as I understood things, The components I was buying were claiming to be so incredibly powerful, Hell, my Graphics card even popped up a nice little thank you message when first installed thanking me for purchasing what they referred to as Professional Grade Graphics, I'm assuming it's a direct reference to NVidia's claims that their 3k dual GPU graphics card was a "Supercomputer" for your home and was capable of rendering graphics on par with CGI Movies, with Ray Tracing, and a ton of other catch phrases, and as I understood, the R9 295x2 had more Ram on board, as well as higher clock rates, just an all around better card, as several publications claimed.

Now, I know it's been a long tradition for people from NVidia to crap on AMD for having inferior drivers, and claiming that they get their drivers nearly instantly when new games come out, which is something I believe, as it's just too often you hear the same thing, but seriously, I thought these cards were "Supercomputers", so how is it possible that something that is supposedly Pre rendered anyway can play while stuttering, and when you watch the people speaking, even though they look like your watching a freaking movie, they are that realistic and clear, there is still the issue with the stuttering, the sound pops in and out, and worse, the voices are far ahead of the facial animations. Nearer the end of the intro, when the sarge is talking to his men, the syncing of the animation and the voices does get a bit better, but still, its annoyingly jarring.

I've fiddled with the settings, turning them down, even making sure that the specific setting it mentions that is horrible with crossfire and SLI is turned off, and no matter what I do, that intro video is crap. What am I doing wrong? I tried the Omega driver, junk, I downgraded to the beta for the two games with supposed optimizations, still junk, My graphics card is supposed to have four gigs of video memory for each GPU, but where it mentions video ram, it claims I have like 2800mb's, not the full 4000, Am I missing something? Or is this simply a case of AMD having horrible drivers for that one game, and nothing is going to fix it until they hammer out newer, finalized drivers for the game? Now, Once the game gets going, things are much nicer, but I even had it crash once, after it ran buttery smooth for a while, so I'm lost.

I can run Titanfall with 4k settings, and everything on high, and I get silky smooth frame rates throughout, but nothing I do improves Call of Duty, Advanced Warfare, am I alone? Are the people showing the video's online running NVidia and that's why their intro looks silky smooth? How is it possible that such powerful systems can still struggle with a re rendered visual? Any ideas?

So please remember, I'm new to Crossfire, so it's not like I am claiming to know anything in particular, I just need some friendly advice, and maybe someone knows something I'm missing. Thanks
