I have yet to see nVidia release a "hotfix". Their drivers just work.

Except when they don't. I have a GTX485m, the top of line mobile card. I got my computer in Feburary, the GTX485m was released in January and there has been no official driver support until mid april in the 270.xx verde drivers. The last drivers that worked were 265.77 from the notebook manufacturer.

It took 3 months for Nvidia to add 3 lines in the ini file for a mobile GF104 part.

I do miss ATI drivers. Firstly, the monthly updates were predictable so I knew when new drivers were coming out and had the option of always running the newest incremental updates or not (and upgrade every few months like Nvidia does), second graphics cards were actually supported either on release or hotfixed in support shortly after release.

Hey, I'm allowed to prefer the way in which nVidia releases their drivers. I would rather only have to update every few months, personally. If I needed a new SLI profile or something I might run the betas.

AMD's system of updating the drivers monthly and then releasing hotfixes is a huge annoyance IMO.

You're right in saying that nVidia has problems also.

I can see your logic in saying that the drivers are of equal quality. My concern is more related to their release schedule and such.

You are concerned that AMD release too many driver updates?
It was a WHQL driver from NV which had the problem with cards burning up. Not a beta, a WHQL, so just because NV releases WHQL drivers less frequently doesn't mean that somehow it's safer.

Not really. What is being discussed here is the merit of AMD's hotfix drivers, their monthly release schedule and if it affect AMDs driver quality in comparison to nvidia which i think is pretty appropriate considering the fact that this is a driver thread.

As for me I actually like AMDs monthly driver updates but that's just me

Apparently they've found the issue for cursor lag, and are planning to release a fix in the next few weeks. If they fix this and the 99% gpu bug, I'll be happy as a clam!

Good thing they release fixes as fast as possible and not at their own leisure huh. I'm still at a loss as to why it took them so long.
