Computer Build Troubles.....
Components:
AMD 64 3400+
MSI NEO-FSR motherboard
1024MB Kingston PC3200 DDR
ASUS CD-RW
ASUS DVD-ROM
Western Digital 80GB HDD
Alps Electronic Floppy Drive
Thermaltake Xaser III w/ Thermaltake 430W Power supply
We started out by turning the computer on without the 4-pin connector. After connecting that and the power switch, it ran ONCE showing all of the specs on the monitor, showing the RAM, CDRW Drive, DVD Drive, CPU. It shut off after a brief showing of this information. We smelled a burning smell...we checked the CPU and it was fine, but we did find one wire that was melted...it was yellow and black wires (2 wires into one single connector) that was plugged onto the motherboard. The connector was coming out of an area ABOVE the power supply (not out of the power supply) and the connector said CASE ALARM, I guess just standard with the Thermaltake Xaser III.
After that, when we tried to turn it on, we would get a single long beep after turning the computer on. We reset CMOS, and the beeping went away. It is now turning on for 10 - 15 seconds and then powering off, never showing anything on ther motherboard.
That's where we are now. Any ideas?
