AMD boxed cpus come w/thermal paste?

My new A64 X2 4400+ just arrived and I noticed the HSF is not attached to the chip (!!!) do they provide any thermal pads or anything? Or do I need to go buy some goo?

There is a thermal pad on the bottom of the heatsink, covered up by a plastic strip. You'll be fine :)

You install the CPU first, & then the HSF.

They are never attached previously, which is why the other posters are rolfing around...

Well back in the day of pentium 1, it prolly was possible.
Then the Hsf was attached to the cpu, now days its the cpu attached to the HSF lol.

Yeah even as recently as the PII I know they had them attached, anything with a slot CPU was like that, even some of the early PIII's I think. So if it has been a long time that may be what the OP is thinking about.
