AMD BF3 driver / 11.10 catalyst preview driver released

People in the PC Gaming BF3 thread are saying they are getting corrupt file errors when trying to install this driver... Anyone else getting that? I can't test it obviously, but I am googling for a fix if this is the case.

Edit - The more I read, it seems like AMD is still uploading the driver to their website. So it may not be ready yet, but it should be shortly. I guess the file is supposed to be 96MB*...

*Not sure how true that is... 😀

Why don't you troll a little harder next time. Why do you care about an AMD driver? Are you trying to educate us AMD users; because, per your sig, you have a 460. Nevertheless, it's OK, AMD will be beat Nvidia in this title. So, I guess you're a little angry, right? 😀

The insults and personal attacks are needless and inflammatory.

^this i really doubt that the whole driver is only 23.6mb

Still no DX11 MTR support🙁

Would be so nice for Civ5 and BF3 for DX10+ hardware

Which is inexcusable. This is one of three main thing DX11 brought us, and AMD can't even bother to get it working. What's so bad is that they're not too far behind Nvidia cards(in BF3), and this could make them even. MY guess is they don't enable it till the 7xxx cards is released and make it a selling point.

I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case...I doubt that AMD will put any work on it for their DX10.1 cards either way

I guess it's possible though that they have it enabled for BF3 only, like Nvidia did for Civilization V before the full support got implemented

Btw, for almost one year ago, Firaxis said they were awaiting MTR drivers "soon"😀

actually, i wouldn't be surprised if amd simply can't do this
the thing is, the vliw arquitecture don't have a hardware scheduler (like fermi and GCN) so it must be done by the cpu through drivers.

i stand to be corrected, but i can't see amd unlocking MTR
without screwing up the drivers or redoing them from zero

Multi-threaded rendering is part of the DX11 spec(so AMD has to be able to handle it to be compliant), and is handled through the drivers for Nvidia too(which is why it was enabled with a specific driver release for Civ 5).

The fact that Dice has been pushing AMD to include means to me that it can be done, but they haven't taken the time. Dice has more than enough access to AMD's hardware and software to know if it's possible, and they wouldn't be publicly pushing for AMD to enable it if they knew it couldn't happen.

Here's a link to a PDF from Dice talking about DX11 rendering in Frostbite 2, and they have a separate section talking about multi-threaded rendering. Interesting read.
