I'm considering purchasing a new AMD 1.4 GHz 266 FSB processor. I have noticed that some of them mention serial or core AYHJA or something like that. What is the difference between one WITH that marking versus one WITHOUT? I notice the AYHJA seems newer and carries a higher price tag, and I'm curious if the higher price is worth it.

Thanks!

Well from what I've seen, no, but I guess that's the kind of information I'm looking for. Anyway, found this from Atacom.com web site (reseller I found on pricewatch/anand weekly pricing guides)

AMD THUNDERBIRD 1400 MHZ/FSB@266 OEM SOCKET A (30 DAY WARR) $164.95
AMD TBIRD 1.4 GHZ@266 OEM- BLUE COPPER DIE(30 DAYS WARR)AYHJA-UNLOCK $183.95
AMD TBIRD 1.4 GHZ@266 OEM(30 DAYS WARR)AYHJA-SERIAL NO Yxxxxx $199.95

All are OEM; the retail box ones with fans are more of course. Anyway, what's the difference in these? The 2 more expensive are label with AYHJA, so Im trying to learn the difference.

Thanks!

First of all, I highly recomend going to NewEgg...I just don't trust stores that charge extra for something that they shouldn't, like a new stepping...they pay the same for it, after all...

Anyway, here we go:
AMD THUNDERBIRD 1400 MHZ/FSB@266 OEM SOCKET A (30 DAY WARR) $164.95 <- Standard
<Edit> Oh...the standard just happens to be AYHJA... </Edit>
AMD TBIRD 1.4 GHZ@266 OEM- BLUE COPPER DIE(30 DAYS WARR)AYHJA-UNLOCK $183.95 <- $20 for four pencil lines...
AMD TBIRD 1.4 GHZ@266 OEM(30 DAYS WARR)AYHJA-SERIAL NO Yxxxxx $199.95 <- The ones with a "Y" supposedly overclock better...not much evidence to back that up...

Again, go to NewEgg...they're cheaper and have a very good rep.
