lol, your not gonna get 2.5 unless you have a very nice watercooling kit. honestly, these are great chips but they dont go over 2300 on air cooling

check out oc-forums. someone with this stepping oc'ed up to 2.5ghz on air. i guess it's luck of the draw but this stepping is the best overclocker.

there are gonna be people who hit 2.5 or whatever, but i would say a VAST majority is 2.2-2.35

long story short I have been thorugh about 20 of these chips decent cooling ie sk-7 (25 dollar heatsink fan combo) you can hit 2250 at 1.625 volts and about 2400 megahertz on almost 90% of them at 1.725v ish

Does anyone know if these XP chips run on the old ASUS A7V133 boards? I heard once that some of the boards took them without a problem, and some wouldn't. Anyway to tell? I do have the version with the raid controller.

Just ordered one at SVC....these are the hard to find 1.5v chips...great deal. Be a while until I can use it though, need to get a new ABIT N7F-S, Memory, and new Video card....

SVC ones MIGHT not clock as good this is a summary of my expereicne pretty much with many others input as well

2 dumb questions.

Do these come locked or unlocked? and Would it be wise to pick one of these up instead of waiting on the Athlon 64?

I heard the athlon 64 is gonna run 32 bit software like crap.

You've got the Athlon 64 confused with the Itanic. Athlon 64 = excellent 32 bit compatability, Itanic = *screech... blurb... blurb... glug... thud*.

SithSolo1 - Pick up an XP for overclocking now, wait for the Athlon 64 to drop in price after it's released. You'll have to replace your motherboard to use a 64 anyway, so you might as well get one last good processor in it before doing so.

Yes, the NewEgg procs could be anything... They've been mixing Tbred A 1700+s in, which won't hit close to 2GHz most of the time.

so - would the asus board a7n8x work well with it?

could I go lower in the asus family? looking for onboard audio and ethernet.

2.28G on my A7N8X/XP2100+ with air cooling/SVC GC-69. Just a note: I have v1.06 of the MB, and have trouble getting stable results with any FSB above 175Mhz. I'd suggest getting v2.0 if you seek higher FSB settings.

HrMM.. I have a Athlon XP 2500+ (Barton) and an Asus A7N8X Deluxe.. If I try to run it at a 200mhz FSB it won't post.. also I can't seem to get the chip to overclock well at all.. think I'd get better performance results w/ a Athlon XP 1700 and some OCing?
