Oh, snap, that 2800 is the Barton Core!

I remember about a month ago these were selling for around $35 shipped used. Twas my first processor I bought, I even played oblivion and BF2 on it.

There's some benchmarks floating around somewhere comparing an XP and the Atom, and for a low-powered backup or file server the Athlon XP actually is quite a bit better of an option... if anyone's interested.

thanks, was just going through my closet and found an old skt A / xp2000 and was going to be putting it together for my test/linux/different os rig. this will make it much better 🙂

Screw the new ones, I want this used one! 😉

Thanks for the link, I'm getting a 2800+ to replace the 1800+ in my Windows Home Server box.

OK, who had these hiding in their closet? I'll have to order a few since I have a few Socket A MBs laying around.

Quantity Limit: 20 :Q

Thanks OP

Socket 754 has some cheap deals.

Forget about the Pentium III.

Hope they sell out before I decide to buy more junk I don't need.

Thanks OP.. haha that is so awesome! My secondary machine is a water cooled rig I built a few years back with an ASUS A7N8X DELUXE MB and one of those open AMD XP 2400-M mobile processors. I never was able to get it to run stable as an XP 2800 equivalent. Now I will be able to finally just pop one of the real things in!

Wow. Nice find for anyone not interested in top performance. Very tempting though don't know what I'd do with it. With all the work involved with building up a new system, it almost doesn't make sense to use anything but current technology...unless you just have some old gear laying around that you want to use. After building I don't know how many machines for my family and friends, I either lost interest or didn't have time to fool with it. I don't game anymore, just do Photoshop, video and net surfing.

If these were the XP-M Barton's, then I would probably find myself being inexoriably pulled in. In fact, that's what I still run today, an old Asus A7N8X Deluxe with an XP-M 2600 Barton running at 2300MHz. It would probably run faster except the the FSB isn't stable past 185MHz. The mobo is over 5 years old and CPU almost the same. It is still rock solid.

But, I digress. Hmmm, $15 for a brand new CPU and fan. Hmmm, now what was my account password at ZZF. Oh yeah, I remember....

SOMEBODY STOP ME!

Hmmm, unless damaged by sloppy HSF install/removal, I'd expect the chips to outlive the motherboards. I think I have a good chip in the garage, and two dead boards.

All prices up $5 - $15 or more. 🙁

Still pretty good prices if you have the motherboard and you need a CPU.

Yep, the old trick. Generate interest and jack up the prices. Good deal on those that bought early.

Sad thing is my main home computer is an Athlon XP 2400+. Running, of course, on a FAR Soyo motherboard I got courtesy of this forum.
