I currently have an AMD Athlon XP-M 1500+ that I think I fried in my Compaq Presario 910US. I replaced a defective heatsink/fan and didn't realize I needed to replace the Thermal Adhesive Strip (dumb newb move). It ran for awhile but would then crash as it warmed up. Finally, it would not even post, so I'm assuming the CPU is toast.
Anyway, I would like to upgrade to a faster processor and want to know my options. I am thinking about an Athlon XP-M 2800+. It has a FSB of 266. Does the processor power make a difference? Mine is 35W. Most of the ones I've seen in Ebay are 45W. My part # is AXMD1500FQQ3C 9700206280420 AIRGA 0223UPBW.
