AMD Athlon XP 2800+ for $101.00 shipped

I ordered one about a month ago from newegg 101.00 shipped.

At work we just got an Opteron and loaded W2K3 Server 64 bit and its freaky fast - but when you are on a budget, any upper end Barton CPU is still a fantastic deal and at this price pretty good

Finally moved up from the AMD Athlon XP's to modern era, and now only run Mobile 2400's 😀
The $72 Mobile Barton's easily run at XP3500+ speeds, and at a much lower
temperature, all on cheap whimpy HSF's (usually run everyday speeds of 210x11).
They will even beat low end stock clocked A64's in gaming.

Plus, all of us NON-A64 users have the added advantage of being able to use MCP-T
or MCP-D, so all our gaming can use SPDIF 5.1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Try that with an A64!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad to hear you guys still think the XP's are still a good chip. I've been wanting to put together a HTPC for a while and really want Soundstorm, which is only available on NF2 MB's. Which, of course, only support the socket A.

I've been putting off the build just cause I'm nervious about buying such "dated" technology, but maybe the 2400-M and the NF7-S will give me many years of HTPC bliss. 🙂

You beat me to it during my edit.
Soundstorm says it all.
No need to move on until a replacemnet comes out.
XP's do have the powered needed to do anything an A64 can do.
Cranking out 18,000+ 3dmarks with an old 9700 pro in an AMD XP system shows good speed, yet plenty of room to grow.

If you want to do what I think is one of the huge pluses for a HTPC you'll need a Pentium 4 to really get going. That is use the HTPC to upscale 480p DVDs to 720p resolution with FFDSHOW filtering.

Just something to look into.

Don't buy this. Get the Mobile 2500+ or 2600+. You can overclock those chips like a mother.

I'm running my 2500+ (1.8 Ghz) at 2.4 Ghz (200 FSB) which is easily 3200+ territory. And it runs cool at that speed too.

Not a threadcrap, just info for any perspective buyers - the mobile is where its at.

dangit AMDZen, you talked me into it - went and ordered a Mobile 2500 plus from da egg - gonna replace the xp 1800+ I won in an amd contest a few years back

xp's have gone UP in price in the last few months because of short supply, 2800+ oem could be had for like $80- not to long ago

I was allways an xp fan but at that price mine as well go for a 64 2800+ or better

I was thinking of upgrading my computer from a barton + NF2 setup and going with a A64 Venice 3000 Socket 939 from Newegg. The deal breaker was needing a new video card as all I have is an agp card in my current system. That's too much extra cash to need to lay out at this time. Maybe later.

My mobile 2800+ goes to 2.7 as well at 1.95 volts, sub 50 celsius (prime load) but if your motherboard doesn't support mobile chips then it will only work as a 6x multiplier

Hello and welcome to the age of 64bit
Do you post anything other than threadcraps?

Seriously... Pretty good price for that. Not everybody can afford 64bit.

You can get an A64 2800+ for about the same price, give or take a dollar or two 😛

Come on guys. Save yourself some trouble and move the to the 64bit for $10-15 more. In a year two there will be a lot more application supporting 64.

badbulldog, it's not just buying a new processor. It's buying a new motherboard and video card as well. Shoot, you will probably need more ram as well to take advantage of the higher speeds. It's not a cheap upgrade for some people.
