I was snooping around in ASUS Probe 2.0 and it reported the following information about my processor (AMD XP 2000+), it said that I had a "Current Speed: 1666mhz" and a "Maximum Speed: 1800mhz" - What is the maximum speed exactly and do I need to overclock with a better HSF to attain it?

My Rig:

AMD Athlon XP 2000+
Stock HSF with Arctic Silver 3 (Idle 41?C)
ASUS A7V333-R., BIOS Revision 1015
TT Blue Orb Chipset Cooling with Arctic Silver 3 (Idle 25?C)

That maximum speed rating thing is puzzling.. but I have a feeling it may be what your mobo can support. (although i am sure it can take higher CPU's, programs report stuff such as that)

Yes that would make sense I suppose. The 1015 BIOS revision took that limit up though to at least 2600+ CPU and/or 333mhz BUS CPUs which are the 2700 and 2800 - so its an inaccurate reading, and its either getting it from a different part of the BIOS or something more mysterious.

I should also note that when the BIOS loses power and asks for my CPU speed on startup, I get three choices, a lower speed, the standard for whatever XP rating I have (2000 = 1667mhz) and then it also offers 1800mhz. I should have gotten a better look at the core information before I glopped on some AS3, maybe there is something particular about it.

The "Family - Model - Step" of my processor is 6.6.2, if that means anything.
