Good Lord! I might wanna get me one of these :D. When I win the lottery, ofcourse. And if I do, X2's for everyone :D.

Good to see different results around the board..

have you tried H.264 playback?

Some the 1080p clips put a hurting on my Venice @ 2.8ghz.. How does the X2 stack up?

Does it peg both cores @ 100%?

Just tried out H.264...wow it's gorgeous, but the file sizes are still a bit too big for broadband (maybe FIOS will cure that).

The cores fluctuate between 20-50% usage, and most of the time they hover around 35% during playback. This was with a 720P trailer.

J can you try with a 1080p trailer?

Batman Begins

Or the BBC trailer..

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/hdgallery/

I can run multiple 720p ones NO problem @ all..

The 1080p does a number on my system..

Thanks!

I'm not seeing a single 1080p trailer; all the movie trailer links in the H.264 gallery have two options: 480p & 720p. The monitor on my test bench only has 1280x1024 resolution, so does Apple's website restrict me from seeing the 1080p option because of that?

Hey JP, any chance you could do the TMPGEnc bench with divx 6 Helium codec? It's meant to show substancial gains in SMP/dual-core configs.

So with mid-end air cooling and a safe VCore of 1.52V, we have the equivalent of a AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+, or two AMD FX-55s in one socket. Not bad.

Wow great results! Not bad? That's awesome! But if you consider the Zalman 7700cu mid-end air cooling, what would a high-end cooler be?

According to AMDZone, high-end air is a ThermalRight XP90C with a 90mm 108CFM Vantec "Bleed From Your Ears" Tornado. I agree, that is high end, but it's also completely unrealistic for anything but benchmarking.

I really need to get into some light water cooling. I've been eyeing the ThermalTake Big Water Kit for a while, and I think I'll jump on the bandwagon.

You wouldn't want something like water cooling. If you are trying to overclock, watercooling will not give you much more than a top end air cooling setup. W/C is good for high end air cooling performance without the noise. But on the downside, there is a ton of upkeep and maintanance required, expensive, and even a slight leak can fry your pc.

I have done water cooling for about 8 months running an Athlon XP 1700+ tbred at around 2.4ghz. To be honest, all the trouble it was, it wasn't worth it. I would rather have had just some good air cooling and not worry about refilling the water every month and algae growing and such.

Cool.. That extra core does the trick!

Mine is pegged @ 100 and I get some occasional stuttering in the 1080p trailers..

I'd be happy to, but do you know where I can download whatever I need to run it?

I know I can't post warez in here, so here's the demo. I believe you can only encode up to 20 minutes with it, but I'm not sure. Anyway, here you go.

jpeyton: - you have the Patriot 1GB Dual Channel PC3200 XBLK, with the brain power PCB (dunno what you mean by the 815 PCB's), anyways i have the OCZ plat rev2 with the same spec chips (TCCD) and i think the same PCB the brainpower, can you confirm? if so that is good news because those are nice timings, and when i get my 4400+/4800+ i will be looking to have tighter timings like yours ..

I already have TMPGEnc. Did you want me to encode DivX 6 to MPG, or MPG to DivX 6? Does TMPGEnc encode DivX 6?

Sorry, I'm a little clueless about encoding video.

RichUK, when did you buy your memory? If you've had it for a while, it is TCCD with BrainPower PCB just like mine. I know that the newer OCZ Platinum has TCC5, which may/may not be as good.

You can check to make sure, but I believe your Rev2 has BrainPower 808 PCB, which is slightly better than 815. It should be imprinted on the edge of your memory PCB.

BTW, I'm testing out the second 4400+ and it is doing noticeably better. Looks like 300x9 will be possible, but I won't know for sure until tonight.

Right now I'm working on finding the highest speeds I can get with my 4400+ in 'ideal' (as they go for me) conditions. AC set to 70*, 120mm fan sitting on ram, 80mm aimed at the ram mosfet, 80mm aimed at chipset, and a Koolance Exos with a 300g cooler. I've never used the Exos (got it cheap last August) and am new to socket 939 (DFI Nf4) so this is going a bit slow for now.

At 1.25 volts the cpu started getting unstable around 2450, at 1.4 - 2650, and at 1.5 (1.45 in windows) 2750. I'm going to take a break while it runs two prime95's at 2700mhz. Then it'll be time to tinker with the OCZ Plat Rev2 TCCD and find a point to benchmark at. I really want to get some media encoding testing done tonight.

The anticipation and arrival of this X2 has been more exciting than any cpu in my decade of computer use for sure!

QFT!

I eagerly await the posting of more results from others, and being able to post my own results in a few days

Make sure you guys set the CPU affinity in Prime95.

This Zalman isn't working for me; I primed for a while at 2700MHz (300x9, 1.55v), but I backed off because my CPU temps were hitting 66C.

Neeeeeeeeeeeeed better cooling......maybe not water, but something with a few heatpipes and a faster fan.

What does this mean?

I have found this to be untrue, because people who ordered from Newegg reported recieving 0517 as well.

05 = Year of manufacture
17 = Week of manufacture

So the CPU was manufactured on the 17th week of 2005.
