I just picked one up, this will be replacing my x2 3800+, I had real good luck with that old processor, getting to 2.45 ghz at 1.38 volts on air cooling, I will be putting in the new +4200 tommorow and seeing where I cant with that one. I have read that 2.6 should be easily achievable, but hopefully I can get 2.7 ghz.

Ill post and let everyone know.

Hey I have an old 939 board laying around with AGP. I used to have an AMD 64 4000+ clawhammer in it. Can this board take an X2?

You bet it can ... you may need a BIOS update from your MB manufacturer but it's doubtful. To the above 3200+ posters, you have a socket 754 (almost positive, maybe some later A64 3200+'s were 939) so you'll probably need to change motherboards, although 939's are cheap and yes this chip would be a large upgrade to the 3200.

I have a 3200+ that's a 939. Built the system in Dec. of '04 (woah, time flies). I really don't remember much else about the processor, except that I bought it boxed with heat sink and fan.

It's as simple as just replacing the chip, right? Don't need to get a new fan/sink, or worry about conflicts if it's 939? Been a while since I thought about this stuff....

Thx

I just picked up an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (toledo core) and I'm getting 2.7 @ default voltage (1.35V) on air. Using a DFI LANParty Ultra-D mobo and Thermalright Ultra-90 cooler. Nice upgrade from my Opteron 144 (2.6 @ default). This will tide me over until the next generation of processors/mobo's. I'm just going to just skip the whole 65nm Penryn/Phenom gen and probably get a 45nm next gen chip.

Yes..........But you may need to get the latest BIOS from the MB maker. Your fan/sink will work fine.

My Manchester core 4200 won't do better than 2.55 @ 1.4 volts. Not sure if this is true or not but I've read that the Toledo core is more overclock friendly. Can't complain to much though considering the cost.
