This chip is Excellent, Great find. I am using this chip and it is in my signature Wow i cannot believe the price.
It beats any 939chip out there which runs at 2.4 with 512kn cache. And like i was able to overclock my chip upto 2.8ghz, which will blow you away.

kamranziadar is that chip of yours a freak of nature or are most 3400's likely to hit 2.7-2.8ghz? If I thought I had a chance at 2.8 with one of these I'd snag one up right now
But if I'm not mistaken, aren't Socket 754s single channel memory? I mean, I'll take kick ass higher CPU frequency anyday.
this is oem only, pricewatch has this for $155 shipped, about 20 more than this place. would be better deal if it was retail cpu.
Ok overclocking 101, in order to get upto 2.8ghz you need to have good memory who can overclock very well or you could buy PC4000 and for future buy PC4000 Dual channel. I know this Dual channel will not work with Socket 754 but it will run as a single channel ram.
You need to have a good motherboard i would recomend ASUS K8N or MSI NEO PLatinum read the review and you will know what i am talking about.
But any way i am using Geil PC3200 Dual channel memory in this setup. But if every thing goes well you should be able to get this puppy up to 2.7ghz easily, but in order to get up to 2.8ghz you have to be carefull, with good cooling, and lots of tweaking.
But like i said 2.7ghz is easily as eating a pie.

everytime i see a thread about socket 754 or 3400+ he claims his chip is faster than any 939 equivalent. if both chips are running at 2.4ghz and both have 512 cache....939 has dual channel memory and 754 has single channel...all else the same, how does the 754 pull ahead?
hitting 2.8ghz on this is much harder than hitting 2.8ghz on a 939 chip.
as for the best mobo...i think anand and quite a few other members has established the dfi nf3 250gb is the best for max overclock and most overclocking options.
this is a great budget chip, but dont let it sway you in picking it over a similarly priced 939. i still have my 754 3400+ sitting in a box for my downloading rig

True for the most part...but not all 939 chips get even close to 2.8. The newer venices are lucky to hit 2.5 or 2.6. My 3700+ in fact overclocks better than my 3200+ Venice...and Clawhammers generally don't overclock as well as Newcastles (which the 3400+ is). However, the 3700+ even w/ 100 extra mhz and 512 more L2 still only performs about the same as the slower clocked Venice in *most* applications.
I agree though...don't buy this hoping to hit 2.8 because that is not the norm. From my admittedly limited experience with the 3400+ NC...2.5-2.6 is about what to expect. Still not a bad deal considering the Chaintech VNF3 can be had for ~$50 new. Around $180 for a 2.6 ghz A64 ain't too shabby at all.
So to summarize...this is a great budget option when combined with a good budget overclocking board (eg. VNF3-250 or the Epox 8KDA3+).
