This is NOT a repost.

I bought the last combo deal. That was a socket 754 3400+ with motherboard
for $99. This is a socket 939 3400+ with motherboard for $120.

Both motherboards are NFORCE4, which is good. The manufacturers are
ECS and Biostar, which is bad.

I personally liked the old deal better. $20 less, Gigabyte motherboard with
integrated video, made a nice little web cruiser. With this combo, you are
going to need a PCIe video card. For a budget gamer, this is a pretty nice deal,
however.

I like this deal better because of the PCI-E slot. This + the $68.88 7600 GS deal and the $15 artic freezer cooler deal gives me a nice cheap gaming system for $220. This is a good upgrade for me from my AXP 2.2Ghz and I get to use all my old components.

This will hold me over until I can get a C2Q system and then this box will be powerful enough to record HDTV.

While technically not a repost here is the original thread updated to reflect the new deal.

This probably deserves it's own thread since the old one is still valid, this is a new deal and this is a pretty good price.

Edit: Old deal seems to be dead now.

Yes this is a repost. The older, original thread was modified for this new motherboard combo on 9-30-06 with a better description actually stating in the title it's a socket 939, unlike this one.

"This + the $68.88 7600 GS deal"

That would have been perfect for me when I was looking for a new AGP video card the other week.

That was for a PCI-E card IIRC. I just got an AGP 7600 GS for $105 AMIR.

Does look fairly hot to me, nforce4 is nice, but I am waiting for a HDCP video card to drop into a reasonable price to make a new system.

The other deal also had an mATX board. It was valid for so long and I never jumped on. Then when I finally wanted it, it was dead.

Nice to see that they have a similar deal now however the performance difference between a socket 939 and 754 is almost zero. At least you get a newer chipset this time around.

Ordered Monday and received today, nice!

I picked the Biostar board.

Most of you must know this, but no hs/fan with the cpu.

cpu was badly packaged. Plastic case open, cpu still inside. Also small piece of bubble pack thrown in with plastic case inside cardboard box.

I'll put it together tomorrow, and hope my AGP card works!

Hi, what AGP video card are you going to use in the Biostar ??

I was wondering what an XGP slot was and I looked it up.

The oem chips at Newegg usually have 30 day warranty, at least that's what the oem 754 chips had.

Maybe seems to be the best answer I can see. Some work and some don't.
Even if it does technically work it seems the performance is horrible.
Basically don't count on it is what I would recommend.
