AMD Athlon 64 3200+ ClawHammer CG or C0?????

After reading many topics and personally trying to find a freakin AMD 64 3200+ ClawHammer CG, I just decided to put up a new topic asking ppl who have bought the 3200+ what version (CG or C0) they received and where they bought it from (NewEgg... etc).

So for anyone who has bought the 3200+ ClawHammer... help!
 
I bought a 3200 CG stepping from Monarch. I actually ordered a Newcastle, but got the Clawhammer instead. Mine only does 2.3 ghz @ 1.5 volts though...but it'll do. 🙂
 
I give up. I think Im just gonna stick with the Newcastle. For some reason I dont feel like being dissappointed if I get it in the mail and it ends up being a C0. Plus the Newcastle is a little cheaper and practicaly just as good. Off I go to newegg!
 
looks like a misprint.. buy it and complain when you dont get a 2.4ghz proc. maybe they'll send a 3400
 
I just bought a 3200+ 1mb clawhammer OEM from newegg 2 days ago it was CG.

I know because it says AR at the end and when I use cpu-z it says revision CG.

The one I ordered also is CG from newegg. Geez, building a nice overclockable computer is so increadibly complex. So much digging in the forums and scouring for reviews of new hardware. In the end I think the process is more rewarding than the resulting computer.

Same here. When was yours made? IIRC, mine was made the 22 week of this year. If the cores were being speed binned for 3700+ production, that would explain why I can' break 2.4 GHz either. I have water cooling, 1.8V on the VCORE and a removed IHS and I still can't crack 2.4 GHz. Grrrr. Well, at least there's an upgrade path with the 3700+ around.
 
I, too, just received an OEM A64 3200+ from Newegg with a CG core (AR product code). Happily surprised as I wasn't expecting one. 🙂
 
If it makes any difference my eMachines M6805 laptop came with a CG Clawhammer 3000+ (1.8GHz, 1MB L2).
 
Did you have trouble overclocking yours?

I am also experiencing trouble with mine. But I think it's just my ram. I have corsair xms 3200, which I have read is not stable under a64 for OC. So I dished out money to get an OCZ 3500EB instead.

If there's a pattern here then AMD is doing something with their latest clawhammer CG to prevent overclocking?

I'm telling you, I think AMD is speed binning the Clawhammer CGs for use as 3700+s. The 3700+ is clocked at 2.4GHz with 1 Meg of cache. I don't think the 2.4GHz barrier is a coincidence.
 
When I read these threads, it seems that obtaining them is discussed more than what is special about them?

Does CG=Clawhammer and CO=Newcastle? Or is it more than that?

What is the difference and the advantage of CG over CO?

CO is the original Clawhammer stepping. CG is the revised core. CG-stepping CPUs have an improved memory controller which allows for 2T memory timings and greater RAM compatibility, especially in 2 x 512MB configurations. It's also theoretically more overclockable.

Newcastles are a new core with the CG stepping. They have 512K cache from the factory, so their die is smaller and cheaper to produce.

There are also 2800+s and 3000+s on the market that are Clawhammer CO cores with half their cache disabled. They are sometimes called Newcastles by CPU ID software, but it's incorrect. The Newcastle core has 512K of cache natively.
 
the true newcastles have AX in there mfg product code, such as "ADA3000AXBOX", which would be an athlon 64 3000, a true newcastle with cg stepping and hsf

So basically the newcastle CG is still a pretty good choice, more capable core, compatability, just half the cache.

I've been leaning toward the affordable newcastle. It runs about as cool as northwood, right?

Now I just need to pick a mobo.....
 
I scored an OEM 3200+ 1MB Clawhammer from Newegg today. They sold out fast again! I'll post when I receive it (hopefully Friday) and let you know what revision it is.

So, what did you intend to order? Did you order an OEM Newcastle and they sent the claw?

I think you're right. This is the second CG I've had that won't do 2.4+ ghz at any voltage. 🙁
