I'll sell you my 3500+ Winchester if/when I switch to a Venice.

My only real fear is that the new chips will have such good word of mouth that alot P4 people will start demanding them in computers from Best Buy, etc., and the prices will jump.

That's really a good thing in the long run, but for now I want cheap Venice chips.

i got 3000+ 0447 RPSW and 3200+ 0448 SPSW both winnie
if you interested 😉

i am building a new PC in April, it would be marvellous if the 3200+ is available in the UK at that time.........

Now I see 3 different AMD64 3500 2.2Ghz 512K 400fsb at my local store. They are

1. #ADA3500ASBOX (just came out)
2. #ADA3500BIBOX (slightly more $$)
3. #ADA3500AWBOX

Looks like (1) is the new Venice with SSE3 (available now?!), (2) is Winchester, and (3) is Newcastle. Can anyone confirm?

I think SSE3 is some cpu instruction, but what does it do?

#1 is not Venice. It's Clawhammer according to NEWEGG. But you are right about #2 is Winny, and #3 is Newcastle.

See what happens? As soon as you pull that trigger and build a system, its guts are yesterday's news before FedEx even delivers them to you...

Having said that, if these are notably better than the Winnies, I'll probably end up buying one.

In some applications there'll be a bump, sure, but Venice has some manufacturing process technology updates too. We also wanna see if they OC better than Winnie 😛

Just got my rig built and looks like I'm already faced with an upgrade choice. Looking forward to hearing some good OC'ing news from the people on here that buy the Venices'.

Anyone have any pricing info on the upcoming chips yet?

The new cores are simply replacing older core production. Every "Winchester" you buy from now on that's made in production after 4/4/05 will respectably be a "Venice".

SSE3 can't do any harm and it puts it on a level playing field with the prescott - though prescott needs it just to break even with northwood in benchmarks at equal speeds!

SSE2 instructions don't do as much for AMD chips as they do for Intel, but it certainly can't hurt!
