Finaly talked my dad into upgrading my pc  (have to be able to play doom 3 and hl2 when they come out :p).... he's only willing to pay so much (around $400 maybe a little more) but since my computer is soooo old I have to buy a new case, motherboard, processor, and memory thus spending only around $150 to $180 on the new processor. I hear amd is better for gaming so I'm going the amd way, not sure weather to get this AMD Athlon 64 2800+, which is only 1.8GHz... or AMD Athlon XP 3000+, which is 2.16GHz... I'm going to be running windows 2000, mostly for gaming and multimedia... thanks for all the help/suggestions :D

tell your friend he is stupid, and stop listening to him. The Athlon 64 2800+ is on par with/better than the 3 ghz Pentium 4. (especially in games)

yeah, plus a 200 Mhz overclock wont do it any harm when it comes to games and frame rates.

oh ok thanks for the advice, haven't done anything with overclocking before as I understand it has to do with changing bios settings or something along those lines, right?
