AMD Athlon 2600+ being seen as 2000+ with Shuttle XPC SK41G

Hey everyone,

I have a Shuttle XPC SK41G using the VIA 266 chipset, I bought an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 266 FSB processor today and the XPC sees it as a 2000+. I checked the chip to make sure that it was a 2600+ processor, reset the bios, updated the bios, made sure the jumper was set to 133 FSB and still it only comes up as 2000+.

Under CPU-Z it says:

Core speed: 1668.8 MHz
Multiplier: 12.5
FSB: 133.5 MHz
Bus speed: 267.0 MHz

I can't figure out for the life of me as to what the problem could be, is there a chance that the company I purchased the CPU from may have sent me a 333 FSB model of the chip which could be causing the problem? is there anyway by serial number or program that I would verify that it is a 266 FSB model of the chip and not 333 FSB?

Regards,

TommyD

try changing the multiplier to 15x if you can. That will make it operate at 2.0 Ghz, the stock setting, i believe.

The shuttle XPC motherboard doesn't allow the multiplier to be changed.

The Shuttle XPC SK41G says it supports up to AMD Athlon XP 2600+ processors. I also checked like you said to with the multipliers and there is no option to change that on the motherboard itself or on the bios.

This morning I also went to AMDs website and checked by AXD number and it is a 266 thoroughbred core so I know I didn't get the wrong processor.

my buddy is experiencing the same problem on his compaq presario. We installed an Athlon 2600+(AXDA2600DKV3C 266mhz fsb ) in his machine but its being recognized as 2000+ (12.5 x 133). At first I thought he had received the wrong cpu but according to the serial number it is the correct chip.

most likely both of you will need bios updates for the boards because the older chipsets can support a "max" of that speed. which usually requires a bios update..

wierd. but unfortunately compaq presario has only one bios for this board-the one that was shipped with the computer. The processor we're replacing is the exact same Athlon 2600+(AXDA2600DKV3C) that shipped with the machine except that the replacement cpu is green instead of brown in color. is it possible that these chips were mislabeled?
