I'm getting my Asus A7V333 back from Asus RMA next week. Will this board boot with the AMD Athlon 2400+ or does it require an updated BIOS to even boot? I don't have a CPU to swap so it would be helpful if this would boot right out of the box. Thanks

it should work
it might not report the cpu properly during post but it should definately boot even with an older bios
think i remember reading a similar thing in one of tomshardware's articles
there aren't any incredible differences between the cores

Read the Anandtech review about the XP 2600/2400, there are big differences in overclocking ability.

i did read anand's review as well as a few others......
overclockability wasn't the issue/question
yes there are core differences but not enough to warrant a new bios to even boot
read the above before you comment

I just think that the overclockability is a big diffrence but you're right, it's not the answer to the question ;) I just thought you say "no big diffrence" in general. But I'm still wrong :D

i'll tell you what tho
those bartons look nice

AthlonXP 2000+ / 1666MHz
AthlonXP 2100+ / 1733MHz
AthlonXP 2200+ / 1800MHz
AthlonXP 2300+ / 1833MHz (333MHz FSB)
AthlonXP 2400+ / 2000MHz
AthlonXP 2500+ / 2000MHz (333MHz FSB)
AthlonXP 2600+ / 2133MHz
AthlonXP 2700+ / 2166MHz (333MHz FSB)
AthlonXP 2800+ / 2266MHz
AthlonXP 2900+ / 2333MHz (333MHz FSB)

barton /w 512kb cache and 333mhz fsb would be nice
increasing the fsb and cache will allow them to better compete with intel
as far as the model numbers go it will basically 100+ more model number at the same clock
a couple sites have been able to get the Tbred-b's up to like 2.6ghz. So when converting that to a model number, plus the 100+ or more from the added cache and increased fsb, offers an incredible amount of room for ramping up the model numbers/speed and putting pressure on intel.
i'll take a 2500+ for xmas

14x166=AthlonXP 2900+ / 2333MHz (333MHz FSB)
16x166=2656mhz rougly 2666 or a model number of about 3300+
18x166=2988mhz 3700+ maybe
I don't think the athlons will have a problem getting that high in their lifetime
or maybe even, if oc'd, with one of the first on the shelvs
3rd core on the .13 process..... i sense some good yeilds
it'll be interesting to see how high the oc's will go
imagine the seti times mmmmmm
just looking at possibilities......
