AMD approved PS?

i know every site tells you to have an amd approved ps nowadays. but why? can you just use a generic 300w ps? or how about its a brand name company like enermax, but only rated at 250w? what are the problems related with not using the proper ps? and how much would you consider confortable?

If you have any problems, you will immediately worry about your PS if it is not on the list. 😱

Go over to the AMDmb. com site and look under Epox Motherboards. You will find an answer to your question. I got a Enermax350W which I thought would be more than adequate for my 1.4G system which consists of a Epox 8k7a +, but as it turns out this combination just barely makes it. And its AMD approved. You just want to be sure you have enough power whether it be approved or not.

I'm using a 350 Watt AMD Approved PS for an 1800+ XP/Epox 8KHA+/Geforce 3 Ti500 with no problems. I'm not sure how your's barely makes it.

Enermax PSU's have trouble providing enough voltage to the 5v rail. Mine sometimes gets as low as 4.6v
Thats when it crashes. At 4.7v it has trouble with many games and freezes. This applies to all Enermax
even the 400W and above. Don't know what causes the voltage drops and if this is only with Epox boards. Hope I answered your question.
