What cards do we buy for Christmas?

Will there be a Amd card to match against the NEW 8800gts in Dec.?
How much more should I pay for a 8800gt 512mb over a 3870? (8800gt being 18% faster)
Does the 3850 match up to the 8800gt 256mb card?
Is there a new 8800gtx comming soon?

I'm sure I'm not the only one wanting the answers to these questions.

The 3870 X2 will probably be released before the 8800 GTX refresh. The are already producing the cards, but I heard that they were trying to get a hard launch in January. Maybe I am wrong and they will release the cards earlier.

Also, if this new bios flash some how lets the 3870 overclock to crazy levels, then it might hurt the 8800 gt some the 8800 has some cooling issues with the stock cooler.

Maybe if you increase all of those prices by $100 that will be your lineup by christmas.

3870x2 -450.00$
3850x2- 319.00$
3870 - 200.00$
3850 512mb - 160.00$
3850 256mb -129.00$

But i do not think that will happen. The 3870's will stay atleast around 220 dollars and up until halfway through december....AT LEAST. They may be that way till middle of next year if nvidia doesn't slash their prices....

I wish that the tooth fairy would have given me more money when I was little so that I could afford an sli mobo and dual 8800gts (g92 version).

sorry, g92 is going to be 512/1024 so there will almost definitely NOT be a 768 mb anything going forward. iirc the 8800gt 256 is going to be 1400ddr3, though they might end up leaving it at 1800 to stay ahead of 3850.

rumor has it that the new high end will be a g92 x2-type card, probably similar to amd's version. that is supposed to last until mid-08 with g100. I haven't heard any info on if/when an x2-type g92 will be available, however.
