Amd and multiple monitors, can't get it to work right.

I had an Nvidia gtx 750 ti before with the following setup:

two monitors connected by displayport and a TV connected by hdmi. I have my desktop extended across the two displayport monitors. The TV isn't on unless I'm watching a movie, then I turn off the two displayport monitors.

The thing is now that I have an amd 480, when I turn off the two dp monitors, so only the TV is on. It will mess up the icons on the desktop which sucks because I have a lot of icons that I've sorted.

It seems there has to be a trick to get the monitors to not mess the desktop sort up.

ah, if it's port related, that maybe why I"m having this issue with the AMD 480 as I'm connected the monitors with Displayport. When I had the 750Ti and no issues, I was using dual DVI for the monitors and HDMI still for the TV.

Yup, happens with my new Nvidia 1070 also.

But one thing I've noticed that if I set up all possible combinations of my three monitors with each one powered on or off, it'll remmeber the settings and not mess it up.

Yeah its a displayport issue which is annoying.

How did you fix it?

Well I wouldn't say it's a fix, but I have my two monitors connected by DP and one TV by HDMI.

I turned on all three displays, set up how I want my icons set up. Then turned monitor A off, redid the "set main display" again. Turned monitor A back on, turned monitor B off, redid "set main display" again. Turned monitor B back on, then turned A and B off, keeping the TV on and such. When only the TV is on, the icons are messed up but i'm okay with it, since I only use it to watch movies. But when I turn monitors A and B back on, the icons repopulate back to its original positions.

Ah ok. Yeah I have 1 DP + 2DVI right now and its annoying when waking from sleep it will re-order all my chrome windows and everything else that might have been opened. Tried disabling the registry key from that post above but not working 🙁

Could it be a DP issue then? Seeing how I didn't have any issues with the DVI monitors previously.

No, it isn't a DP issue, I mean, the DP works as advertised.
The problem is the OS. For whatever reason, they made it so if the DP monitor is off (sends no signal), then the OS goes, huh, no signal must mean no monitor, so let's reconfig everything! They could easily add an option to NOT reconfig everything, but they haven't yet.

MS knows about the issue, and they don't do crap about it, until more people get DP monitors and complain about it.
Most just get the little dongle and that fixes the issue right up.

I've had this issue with multiple monitors and DP, but it seems to sort itself out eventually and behave. Can't say what I've done to make it stop.
