AMD AM2 Roadmap

Are the "Energy Efficient" models slated to completely take over for their respective PR? Would there be any reason NOT to buy a 35W 3800+ as opposed to the 65W?

Could that be a typo? Did they mean 3800+ single core for 35 watt? If they can make X2 3800+ with TDP 35 watt I am jumping all over it. Who needs Conroe!

Price, perhaps? I do hope they get a slightly different name though, to make it easier to tell them apart.

It's not a typo. I have no idea why you would buy a 65W 3800+ over a 35W 3800+ ... unless AMD is going to do something weird with the clock speeds.

Nice.

:Q @ 35W X2 3800+

I think they are going to slightly lose to Conroe in performance, but that doesn't bother me if prices are better 🙂

With the single core 62W chip REV-F in that road map, will they have a lower TDP rating than the current s939, aka Sandiego?

EDIT: Also I found it hard to believe that AMD would bother to redesign a 90nm K8 to incorporate L3 cache. When most of their efforts should be spent on extra features for 65nm as 90nm is practically EOL. Although it sounds kind of viable if they were to try and combat the Conroe 4MB XE with it.

A 35w 3800+ would most likely be substantially more expensive than a 65w chip. Back when Opterons were strictly single core (and maybe still so now, just haven't checked lately) the lower-wattage HE models were quite a bit spendier than the normal Opterons of the same speed grade.
