just send the wrong chip?

lmk thanks

Hmm thats weird. The computer must not have detected it correctly. Most likely you just need to adjust either the multiplier speed or bus speed on the motherboard. But I can assue you its a 1700 AMD I never owned a 1.1.

Good Luck,
Ben

ok so i got this chip used from him and i tossed it in my mach and it post as a 1.1 althalon , not as a xp 1700 is there something i shuold check is it possible to post as a different chip ?

not sure on this one any help would be great thanks

You need to change your FSB (Front Side Bus) speed.

Your motherboard has probably defaulted to 100FSB = 11x100 = 1.1GHz. It should be 133FSB = 11x133 = 1.47GHz = "1700+"

You have the right chip. :)

he didn't send you the wrong chip.

a good way to check is to use a program called cpu-z to verify that indeed it is a 1700+.

the reason why it detects as 1.1 or 1064 mhz is because sometimes some mobo's default the multiplier to 8x rather than the 11x it should be.

adjust the mult to 11 and voila! you have a 1700+ running 11 x 133.

but the best way tto check is to use a program like cpu-z

i don't like to disagree with the good ol' shimmi, but still i'll put my money on your FSB being at 100mhz instead of 133mhz

This happens to my old fart AMD. When something traumatic happens to the comp (don't ask) and the BIOS gets reset, it displays as...
FSB - 100 mhz
Chip speed - 900 mhz

So I change the FSB to 133, and the chip speed jumps up to 1.3 Ghz.
