Jaguar excites me, and I think this is where their next money maker is going to be. Place a dual core or ULP quad core solution in a heavy tablet along with Windows 8, and that seems like a winner to me.

I get the feeling Temash is the real sleeper of the bunch. Wait till AMD starts talking price/performance with Intel's then existing handset makers.

If you are already going x86 on the handset why not go with the company that is willing to sell such that they take home 35% gross margins versus the guy that insists you pay them enough that they take home 60%?

Tamesh will come down to the graphics they enable on it and the roadmap (i.e. confidence) they provide in 20nm w/14XM follow-up.

When it comes to tablets, the real seller will be the brand behind it and the OS and software that makes it useful. AMD needs to be able to sell to a big company like Samsung or what not who can actually produce a high quality machine with great ergonomics and promote it properly to drive sales. Problem is that they are all so ARM focused, even if 2 or 4 core Jaguar offers the kind of performance that ARM could never hope to touch within the next couple years.

Samsung also has their own line of SoC's and their own fabs, so it's unlikely they'd outsource if they can avoid it.

But no x86 license. So the question is: can Microsoft fail in pushing .Net/Metro resulting in x86 binary compatibility being important while still being big enough in the post-PC world to matter? I can see that being the only way x86 compatibility on a tablet would be relevant.

True, but if Win8 takes off, it may be in their interest to build x86 tablets (hopefully using Jaguar APUs). They do make x86 notebooks of course, so it's certainly possible that they may end trying to rope PC customers into the tablet experience (but still on Windows) which could be done and perhaps smart. They could use the same LCD panels and parts of the non-PCB chassis for both ARM and x86 tablets.

Social worker? I don't follow

How diverse is the current CPU offerings for handsets you can go and buy at an AT&T store or Verizon store right now?

Is there just one cpu, the best one, that truly rules them all? Or like everything else in life it there is diversity in what is available, depending on price and performance?
