Amd ahci & raid driver

You definitely need the AHCI driver.
If it were me I would download and install the RAID driver as well; it's not going to affect your performance by having it and not using it and it will be there in case you decide to setup a RAID volume. That and I'm anal-retentive.

AHCI helps Windows have more direct control of the hardware in your system; RAID allows system level RAID functionality.
 
I've no idea what hardware or the version of Windows you're using, but with an 800-series AMD chipset and Win7 SP1, on my PC, HDD performance was better with the AMD AHCI driver that comes with Windows Update works better than others I've tried (including more up to date ones).
 
Yeah i was reading that it somehow decreases the performance and other ahci drivers have better performance. Anyway when i install the ahci driver will windows update give me a newer one ? @mikeymikec
