AMD A64 4000+ or FX-53

I am building a computer and i have all the parts... The processor which i chose to go with and ordered was the AMD A64 4000+... After thinking about it i thought that wasnt such a good idea because for just 100 dollars more i could get the FX-53... I heard that the FX are better for overclocking as well... My mom said i might even be able to return the 4000+ and get the FX-53.... I know their wont be much of a speed difference because they are both 2.4 Ghz but please tell me... Should i get the FX-53? Is it worth it? and i know people will say just go with the 3500+ which was my original processor of chioce but i have the money so i want to go high end 🙂

well i dont want to overclock the 3200 or 3500 to 4000+ speeds, i want to overclock a higher end to even higher speeds 🙂... so basically i want 4000+ or higher speeds (i have a need for speed cause ive been stuck with a piece of @#$@#%@%$ PC for so long)... Well the point is just, should i go FX-53 or 4000?? I have the money for the higher FX-53 but not enough for FX-55

FX-55 all the way!!!!! (if you are fvcking loaded) If not, then go with a Pentium 133MHz. An A64 3200+ would prolly be the best option though

you guys are missing the point... I know i could get a 3200 or 3500 but please tell me... FX-53 or 4000?

FX-53 or 4000+

It doesnt matter. The 4000+ is nothing more then the FX-53 which is why its the first non FX to have 1MB L2 cache. A lot of benchs I saw show the FX-53 overclocking just a little bit more (100-200Mhz) but nothing to exciting compared to my FX-55 @ 3GHz 🙂

Once the FX-57 comes out, the FX-55 will be renamed to I dunno...4200+ maybe?

fx-53 and the 4000+ is the same thing besides the fact that the fx is multiplier unlocked. the question is: are you an overclocker?

if you oc, then get the fx-53 for that it oc's extremely well. if you just want stock speed, go with the 4000+.

ii'm assuming you are not an overclocker because you want to get such a high end cpu. my advice is get the 3200+ and oc it to 2.5-2.7ghz. 2.7ghz beats the fx-55 at stock speeds.

FX-53 I believe has a larger cache, which would probably result in a slight (but noticable) performance increase, but if AFAIK the 4000+ is just an FX-53 with less cache in a different box? I don't recall exactly, but either way, you should be fine.

i know that i could overclock the 3200 to 2.5-2.7 Ghz... but i have been stuck with such a piece of $hit PC for so long i want a GREAT computer... that isnt even the reason... Because i am getting this PC i wont be getting one for a LONG time... i want this to last really, really, really, really long.... so i want to get a really nice processor and then overclock it even more 🙂

EDIT:

all i want to know is if it is worth the upgrade... because the 4000 has the same cashe as the fx-53 and they are the same speed (both 2.4 ghz)... so would it be good to just stay with the 4000 or be better to upgrade since i have the money...

4000 = fx-53

if yu really want to waste money (which apparently you do) Go with the fx-53, which might make 2.7-2.8 on air.

oh and people are saying go with the 3200.... the thing is that i already bought and have the 4000.... so i would only go through the trouble of sending it back and getting a new one if it was an upgrade to the fx-53...

Dude if you arleady have the 4000+ just use that. The bottom line with PC components is no matter how long you WANT something to last, what the industry does determines how long it will actually last. Truth be told, it's out of your hands. Get a Vapochill kit, set up a system in it around that 4000+, OC the bejeezus out of it, and enjoy yourself for a while.

And if you want your system to last the LONGEST, then don't overclock it until you HAVE to. You already have more than enough power for today's games - if you overclock now, and run the parts that way 24/7, you'll just be putting unneccesary strain on the components and power supply, actually SHORTENING their life span.

So build a good system around that 4000+, and when it is no longer meeting your needs at stock, then look into overclocking.

AMD didn't release a 2.6GHz Athlon 64, they just re-released an Athlon 64 FX-53 - a 2.4GHz, 1MB L2 cache part, as a regular Athlon 64 4000+.

Thats directly from an article here at AnandTech, get the FX, it has the multipliers unlocked and an FX case badge looks a lot cooler than the standard A64 one

I'm also in the same predicament as you, I have all my parts but am waiting on my Chaintech nForce4 board, grrr that slow ebay shipper!

same here... those darn slow Ebay shippers... got mine from Ebay as well... that might not have been a good idea either but oh well...

dont have the money for an fx-55.... ive already pushed the limits with my mom for all these parts (look at my signature for the parts)... I might be able to get an fx-53 though... so i just want to know... stick with 4000 or get fx-53... please just tell me that... i really just want to know... I wont downgrade, or go any higher than the fx-53... just put which is a better choice! 😀

IF you are in to overclocking the fx-53 has unlocked multiplers, that is the only differance. If you do not wish to overclock, get the 4000+.

how good is the 4000+ for overclocking?

so you are saying that it isnt worth it to send back my 4000+ and get the fx-53 because i already have the 4000

Agreed, except the fx is better in the long run because of the unlocked multiplier.

I doubt you'll notice the difference between the 4000 and the fx-53.
I'd stick with what you got since anything else means more waiting.
Go ahead and get gaming.

And if you cant replace the pieces don't OC more than a bit to say 2.6-2.8
OC'ing is not a cheap habit. Stick with a small push and leave it there.

that's because there isnt a performance difference. the 4000+ is a rebadged and locked fx-53.
