Do you know if this DFI LANPARTY DK 790FX-M2RS AM2+/ has the needed power handling to run & OC the new AMD X4 9850 .. After some boards frying with this chip, i want to be certain before i consider it for a build !!!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813136044

Also i already have some good Mushkin Ram DDR2 800 , will this work well with the X4 9850 Blacky or does it actually need the DDR2 1066 ????

Are there any others in this price range that fit the needs of the X4 9850 ..???
Thanks; Ol'Pal

ps; i tried to research the DFI site but i could not get any page to come up except their non-Lanparty pages !! curious huh !!

You have three choices with the 790FX chipset- The MSI, Asus and DFI boards- all of which are more than capable, in fact AMD's site recommends the MSI and Asus boards. Here is my write up on my MSI K9A2 Platinum, which I would be recommending :). More technical information can be found in this massive thread concerning the MSI board. XS also has threads on the DFI and Asus boards for you to peruse.

Thanks for the info Sylvanas!
Looks like your getting good results out of that X2 5000 blacky...

Hope others will chime in also on their knoweledge on this matter !!

Ol'Pal

ps; i might hold off for awhile, looks like time for a new mower !!
a friend is wanting to get together & build a Q9550, & i told him that's some heavey bucks.
He said let's just do it right !! I was wanting to talk him into trying the Q9850 & save about 1/2 but not till we find out for sure about reliability & compatability ..

The only reason I am holding off on buying a new mobo is the SB7xx chipsets that are comming out. Anyone know when the sb710 or sb750 is comming out?

Maybe you can hold off for the nforce 7x0a series before buying which motherboard is the best for the phenom?

780a launching at 29th April, not sure about 750a.

From what I have read, no-one has gotten ram to run at 1066 speeds on an X4, so it would just be a waste of money anyway.

Don't know about that board theough, almost everyone I know with a Phenom has the MSI board, because it was the cheapest.

In terms of overclocking and tweakability, there is no match for a DFI board and the M2RS will be great. It's not too expensive either as you can get it for ~$155: http://www.motherboardpro.com/...Motherboard-p-519.html

Here's a round-up of a few 790FX boards including the M2RS: http://www.hardwarezone.com/ar...php?id=2502&cid=6&pg=3

The M2RS is a bit lacking in features at its price range though, it doesn't have Firewire which is a bit disappointing IMO for that price range.

I don't think you are going to have a problem with 125W CPU's like the 9850 and a 790FX board; Most problems are with cheap 770 boards and the 780G boards which use lower-end PWM and can't supply enough power.

Darkman i don't think anyone has info on when mainstream motherboards will sport the new SB700 chipset... This is not a defineing thing for my MB purchase..
But the PWM problems are a roadblock !!
I notice AMD doesn't certify DFI & Gigabyte MB's on their compatability charts !!
I Wonder why ??
Sapphire has jumped in saying their new MB will handle X4 9850 125 watt Blacky !!!

I may just sit this out till everybody plays good in the sandbox together & we have full compatability !! Heck maybe even 45nm processors like i__l ...

Another ???,, why gigabyte doesn't include ESATA on their 790Fx boards, even if just by rear panel bracket like they do on P35 & X38 boards on i__l side !!

the sapphire mobo is built by DFI and is recommended by AMD,still dont know why AMD doesnt recommend the DFI,probably because they know people will overclock the s### out of it and blame them when things break.By the way the DFI 790fx M2RS kicks ass

Okay wolverineI , you say it kicks ass..

Thanks ; Ol'Pal Gary :D

seems all the manf. are squirming on this topic !!

Actually it could be something to look for because the sb710 chipset is suppsoed to have overdrive 3.0 which makes overclocking easier/better......or something like that.....

And sb700 chipsets are already out....but not sb710's....which is why I asked if anyone has heard anything about this lately.
