Don't get me wrong - I'm *not* an expert on the subject but I've always read the real world speed difference between AGP 8x and AGP 4x is next to nothing. Are there any benchmarks available that put a same speed PCI-E card up against an AGP card? I'd be curious to see if PCI-E wins by a significant amount.
I've got a AGP version BFG 6800GT in my rig now. I've also got a .90 AMD64 3200+ 939pin CPU & Thermaltake XP-90 in my closet. I don't have a motherboard for my 3200+ yet and I'm leaning toward going with either the MSI or Asus board (both AGP) just because I already have an AGP card and the boards are proven. I'm also considering selling the CPU & HS/F combo and waiting. Right now I'm on the fence...
I'm wondering if I should sit on that fence with you!
I was about to plunk down for the 3500+ and Asus A8V so I WOULD have AGP capability with all my AGP GeForces. You folks have me confused now.
I am not a hardcore gamer and will not be trying to find a justification for a dual SLI setup. I just want a fast AMD setup to upgrade from a slow Athlon XP. Any thoughts?
While I'm asking, is there a link to an A64 overclocking article, or is it unlocked and just tweaking the BIOS timings is all that is needed?
