i am in the market to upgrade my mobo/cpu/ram soon, as i'm currently on socket 939. i recently just bought an ati 3870, and was wondering if anybody knew anything about the new 790 gx chipset coming out.

will i be able to hybrid crossfire my 3870 with the onboard IGP? will i be able to crossfire my 3870 with a future 4870? i know details on this chipset are slim, just hoping for some "insider information" or "educated speculations"

Not sure you'd get much out of hybrid crossfire with 3870 + onboard IGP, as the 3870 is already much more powerful.
Note that 790gx mobos might be similar to 780g mobos in that the manufacturers might offer two flavors "with sideport memory" and without, eg. Gigabyte:

Don't know about crossfire compatibility between 3K series and 4K series, but am also interested as am upgrading this fall myself.

38xx are not Crossfire compatible with 4xxx series. You will probably not be able to combine a 3870 with the onboard IGP for extra performance but all the rumors are pointing towards being able to use the 'Hybrid power' feature with the graphics crad and the IGP. Hybrid power will mean that when the GFX card is not being used it will 'turn off' and the display will run off the IGP, thus saving power.
