AMD 64bit Processor Question

Hi All,

I have a quick question. Being that I have my first ever AMD Processor (I have always used intel), I have a couple of questions (and forgive me if they sound stupid).

First off, I have an AMD Athlon64 3500+ (90nm), how much of a difference would I notice if I went to say a 4000+ ?

Also along the same general lines (and this is where the question may sound stupid). Most games now a days seem to "recommend" a 2.4ghz P4 or equivalent. Being that my AMD is rated at 2.2ghz and seems to run games fine from what I have seen, how true is the recommended spec. Is the 2.4 P4 along the same lines as a 3500+? Is it better? Worse?

Thanks for any help!
Terry

the amd 64 3500+ performs like an intel pentium 4 3.5ghz, sometimes they're the same, sometimes the amd is better (gaming), and sometimes the intel p4 is better(video encoding)

amd can make thier 2.2 ghz cpu do the same work as an intel 3.5ghz cpu because amd does more work per cycle... thats all you need to know....

thanks Dough.

I remembered that was the case from a while ago (when I first started building computers). Always good to refresh the memory though. So thanks for that!

get a 3200 and overclock if it isn't fast enough for you. realisticly almost all current video games will be improved more by spending more money on a graphics card instead of a better cpu. anyway all you'd get from a 4000 would be a few extra frames/second over the 3200

an amd 64 3200 is supposed to be equivalent to a P4 3.2GHZ (3200 MHz). amd64's are better at gaming than p4's so a amd643 3200 is probly as good for games as a P4 3.6 GHz.
