AMD 64 Heat Sink + Fan

I'm looking for something that is more quiet than the retail heatsink+fan, is about the same size....

It doesn't need to cool better or as good... I'm just looking for something that is near silent, small and can cool a non oced AMD 64 3000+

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thermalright XP-90... It will be a little larger than what you have now, but in order to go more silent you need to get a better/quieter fan. To get the fan that's going to be quieter, you'll need to go larger, with less RPM's but good CFM's. With the XP-90 you'll be able to use a 92mm fan, spinning slower, and have just as good cooling as you have now. In fact, you'll probably have better cooling at less sound/noise.

Right now, my Athlon64 3400+ (754 pin) with the XP-120 is running 32C at idle. It's much quieter than the stock heatsink and fan that came with this processor and running cooler. My 3400+ should be running warmer/hotter than your 3000+, so if you get the XP-90 you should see as low, if not lower, processor temps.

From what I've seen, that's not even close to the same size as his stock cooler...

Yeah, the new Zalman's are about the size of the sun.

The new Zalmans have a 120mm fan and are called 7700's. The 7000's have a 92mm fan.

Oh c'mon, the 7000zlcu isnt that big 😀

Your right, Jupiter is a better estimate. Though from some angles, it can't fit in the Sol sytem asteroid belt. 😛

The XP-90 is actually larger in Height and Length compared to the 7000alcu

XP-90: 116 x 96 x 96 mm
Zalman : 109 x 109 x 62 mm

Anyways, back on track, pick up the cheaper of the Arctic-Cooling S939 HSF's. They're real quiet. Or, if you want silence, pick up the more expensive model (Freezer 64). However, the cheaper one may have better cooling (just a hunch, as you can't really ever tell a difference when OC'ing Winnies).

This is for a HTPC, and space is a concern.... I was considering a Zalman, but they're huge.

I'll look at the artic cooling.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Edit....
I've looked at the artic cooling 64 ultra, looks like it'll do exactly what I want, it's low profile which is a plus. Thanks very much. I never saw it on newegg before because the description doesn't contain the socket type it's compatible... but for $13 it's a steal.

QurazyQuisp, once you have this setup, please post your results as I need a quiet HS & fan for my A64 3200+ 🙂
