amd 64 fan speed is constant (5800rpm)

i posted this in the cpu forum, but haven't gotten a response...

the fan on my cpu runs constantly at 5800rpm. i could understand that while gaming, but it also does it at idle. do the amd 64 stock fans run only at a constant speed? i was reading in another thread that said they have a thermistor in them, which tells me they should vary with temperature.

my cpu temp is pretty constant at 48 C, which seems normal.

any thoughts?

did you install your AMD cool and quiet drivers?

well....i did, but i unfortunately i had to revert to an older bios version, which doesn't support cool'n'quite.

but even without cool'n'quiet, shouldn't the fan speed slow at idle?

No, not unless there is a fan controller built into the fan itself.
