AMD 64 CPU's, whats the best for money?

I read the review on the site, it seems like the 3400 and 3800 are the best buys. What do you guys think the bes AMD 64 processor is for the money? I don't plan on OCing them, so at standard whats the best?

Any of the 939's (.90s) are awesome overclockers and run very cool. I first got a 3500+ and was amazed by it's performance.

I recently built a sys using a 3000+ and feel that is the best performace/$. Oc's to 2.2ghz no problem using 1gb of $100 memory to boot

3200. The ~$150 jump to the 3500 is not worth it IMO; you only get 200 more mhz.

If it's for gaming, get a 3000+.

You'll get more performance if you spend the extra money on a better video card.

HOWEVER, if this is in addition to a high end video card, get a 3200+ or a 3500+ so you aren't CPU limited.

A lot of people here have managed 2.6 on air with a 3000+ 939(atleast the 2004 Winchesters). It might be the best value for the money now.

winchesters made in 2k4, most were able to reach 2.5-2.7 on the stock heatsink. but either way i say the value goes to the 3200+, not much difference from the 3000+ but you get the 10x multi. 3500+ is so much higher up, but oc'ers tend to go back down to 10x sometimes anyway (i do).

regardless, even if not ocing, best bet: 3200+

All the online stores that sell AMD..the retail box that is listed are all Winchesters if its socket 939( I believe)

Unless you're planning on overclocking there's not much reason to get a 3200+ over a 3000+, of which the only reason you'd want the 3200+ is for the 10x multiplier, because I think its been proven the 3000+'s potential max clock rate is just as high.

IOnly on the 3000+ and 3200+. The 3500+ has two different cores in socket 939. the rest of the 939 use differenct cores. I would just find a good deal on a 3300+ winchester ($150 retail) and call it good. If you plan to OC a bit later, you won't be dissapointed.

Winchester= Socket 939 90nm
Newcastle= Socket 939 130nm

Winchesters will run cooler and require less volts

All the CPUs are limiting the X850XT in that test. HL2 is the most CPU, memory dependent game of the other recent FPS shooters. Otherwise, they wouldn't scale 6 fps+ per 20mhz increase. Also notice how much the Dual Channel memory support helps. A 2.2 s939 winchester beats a 2.4 s754 newcastle. wow!
