AMD 64 and Dual Channel DDR

From what I have read, it appears that only the AMD 64 FX-51 (and successors) will run dual channel DDR. Or will the AMD 64 3XXX CPU's also run dual channel (hyper thread)? I can't seem to find confirmation on this.

I plan on buying an AMD 64, but what to get the most bang for the buck, but really hate to spend the extra $300 on the FX version.

FX's and Opterons can run DC DDR but that's with Registered RAM. Currently the Socket754 CPU's only run SC DDR, but if you look at some tests, the S754 3400+ (SC DDR) shows the same/better performance than the higher priced FX with dual DDR. When S939 hits (In a few months), any more 3XXX+ (3700+ is the last 3XXX chip that I'm aware of) series chips AMD releases will have dual DDR memory controllers and will use regular DDR :D

As for buying an A64, if you can, wait for the 939's to see what they bring to the table.

I already bought an ASUS SK8V, because when i ordered it, i had planned on buying an FX-51, then the 64-3400 came out at almost 1/2 the price and I almost puked...at least i had not bought the CPU yet). I started reading some more, and got the impression (sick) that I wouldn't be able to get D-DDR with the 64--3400 and its younger brethern (3500, 3700, etc?). Thanks for the clarification. I was planning on buying registered DDR, but have not made the plung yet.

I don't want to wait for someone to come out with a new MB that will handle the 939, so...plus the SK8V is a kicki'n board.

Meanwhile, I just bought a Koolance Exos-Al, and am starting to build the case. I also ordered an ATI 9800XT and the water cooler block, so I have high expeactations for speed...Eventually i will buy two WD 10K SATA drives, when I can afford it, but for now will run an uncooled RAID array with some 120 GB 7200RPM drives.

Mark, I REALLY don't think you'd be disappointed with an A64 3400. Plus, not only is it $300 cheaper for the processor, but you'd more than likely save $150-200 on the memory, since you won't need registered ram.

I am leaning towards the 64-3400. What kind of memory would you recomend? The Anantech review on the SK8V MB (and others) was using Mushkin. It's kind of pricey. Any recomendations? Eventually I'll want to get up to 1 GB, becuse I am in the process of burning all my old vinyl records to CD, and the pop/his/noise algorythms are really memory intensive. Going from 256 to 1 GB on an older AMD 2100, cut it by 90%. I'll start with 512 MB. It will be interesting to see if the processing gets any quicker.

Well, Mushkin is the best, but Corsair XMS is really good, and Kingston's HyperX is good also. Just make sure that you buy a single 512mb stick, since it isn't going to be running in dual channel, anyway. Oh, I almost forgot, the top-of-the-line OCZ is supposed to be good stuff too, but for that price, I personally would buy Mushkin.
