AMD 64 3500 90nm Stock HS

I have been looking several threads on the forum about overclocking AMD 64 processors, specifically on the Asus A8N Sli mobo. I was just wondering if specific values, liek those mentioned in the "AMD 64 Quick and Dirty OC Guide," were safe to implement with a stock heatsink? Or should i accquire a Zalman or high end HS before i begin to seriously stress and OC my cpu?

**oop** move to general hardware if necessary

I'd get a zalman or similiar high end fan if you plan to seriously oc. It will be quieter and run cooler than stock at the very least.

but thats just me I'm sure others will say stock is fine =)

Since the 90nm A64s produces little heat, stock cooling should be fine for moderate OCing.

w00t, 1000 posts! Finally.

The stock cooler is fine for moderate overclocking. The only time I'd replace it is if the noise bothers you. I got a retail 3000+ even though I had a Zalman left over from my P4 because I knew I'd move the Zalman on to another CPU\motherboard later on and I would have the stock cooler to put back on the 3000+ (as I did with the P4). Plus backups never hurt anyone. 🙂
