Hi,

I am looking at this deal on tiger direct:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/app...&sku=A455-2110%20D

they have

Asus A8V Deluxe Socket 939 Barebone Kit / AMD Athlon 64 3400+ / 60GB HDD (2 x 60GB) / 512MB DDR / 64MB Video Card / DVD±RW / CPU Fan / WiFi Card / Mid-Tower Case / Keyboard / Mouse / Speakers

Asus A8V Deluxe VIA Socket 939 ATX Motherboard -- How is the motherboard ??? Overclocking etc...??

On the processor:
AMD Processor Speed: 64 3400+ / 2.20GHz
- Cache Size: 128KB L1, 512KB L2, 640KB Total
- Processor Socket: Socket 939

Are they cheating here on the L1 cache, should that be 512KB for a Retailed box processor ????

Anybody thing this is a good deal ??????? If not can you point to me to another site for a similar system...

Pretty hot for what you get. It's about $550-600 in parts a newegg plus you'd have to assemble yourself. Only problem is maybe cheap keyboard, mouse, speakers, case...and that video card is strictly a 2d card....no FPS games or sims.

Processor is cool. It's a rare one but the specs are legit.

The reason it's cheap

1. The A8V listed is the rev.1 (w/wifi) with no PCI/AGAP lock (terrible overclocker)
2. The 939 3400+ only supports 800 hyperT not 1000 as all the other 939's do.

If you just want to run at stock speed its ok. But a 939 3000+ or 3200+ overclocked on a A8V rev.2 (non wifi) will beat the stuffings out of it.

I agree with Zebo, that its a great value for what you get. Just don't expect to OC.

Also if you want to OC the power supply and memory in this rig is not sufficent
The keys to good overclocking are top notch PS (450 watts min) and memory. Kind of a trade off, spend less on the processor but more on the PS and memory
