I am trying to OC 3200+ Venice E3 on Gigabyte K8NSC, So far I am only able to overclock and make it stable at 2.35. I have tried different multipliers from 7.0 to 10.0 and even tried 1.616 voltage but can not make it pass 2.35.. also on the CPU-Z i am seeing voltage fluctuate forth and back.. for example if i keep it 1.55 it will fluctuate between 1.52 to 1.55..is it normal??.. I am not overclocking my ram i keep it close or under 200

is the mobo or the processor or the powersupply bottleneck?

give us the full detail of the computer you've got right now. your power supply, ram, revision of processor, etc . then we could probably "diagnose" the problem

I am using 400W PSU. DO not remember the brand. THe RAM i am using is generic but I am not overclocking it. I am 2/1.33 divider
the stable 2.34Ghz I am getting by using 8.0 multiplier and 275 fsb..ram is at 275*.665 = 182.8
HT = 3.0
Voltage 1.52
Stepping = E3
ther then that i have a 6800 ultra, WD 80Gigs and CD Drive

First of all I don?t think rams are running at that #. what is cpuz showing it at?
2nd, maybe power supply's 12v and 5v rails are low.
3rd, you should run HT @ 4x. 3x may not have enough speed (3x275=825) should be close to 1000 or just little above it
4th, rams could be the problem. a lot of times value rams wont bodge below or above stock speed. This is where people don?t realize when keep emphasizing "get value rams and use dividers"
5th, I don?t think Gigabyte is any good overclocking mobo.
before narrowing it down to mobo, make sure voltage rails are adequate. a 400 watts PSU should have at least 30amp 12v and 25amp 5v rail.
Also make sure the rams get enough vdimm voltage.

how do u check the voltage rails?

let me adjust HT to 4 and also get my CPUZ shots uploaded.. any good place to upload images

image shack is good ....U have to use 4x or 3x ..depending on how much fsb u are using.

download imageshack HereThen set it up for jpg, 80-90% resolution (all setting in one window, and easy). then clik on "select" and choose which "F" function key of keyboard you want for taking screenshot and saving to log file. the log file is in imageshack directory, under program files. open the log file and choose the first link of the 3 links it saves.

Use RAM dividors to underclock the memory, check actual voltages in Windows not BIOS rated voltages and give the chip up to 1.60V of juice (Venice chips can take up to 1.6V pretty well).

how do check for the ACTUAL voltages provided.... in the CPU-Z i see the voltages being fluctuated a bit..they do not remain constant...
is there a tool which can test the power supply?...
I have E3 stepping and these steppings should oc very good
I am underclocking the ram but still can not go over 2.4 ghz ( i even used .5 )
I am able to get 2.37 stable a bit inprovement over 2.35
I will be gettin my ram soon and then i will try again oc it more
it is better to have higher fsb and lower multiplier right for the same speed?

You can download lots of tools at majorGeek. below is Everst Home Edition that is used for benching and has sensor reads. You can also download MBM5 from MajorGeek.
you will see the rail's voltages in both programs I mentioned. another good site is extreme overclockers- a thread shows a wattage calculator for the system and recommends what PSU wattage would suit your need. links below.

i am starting to hate my system.... got my drr 500 today.. i do not have a floppy drive so can not do the memtest! i threw away my floppy drive..%^&(

i am provding 1.60 volts
i tired doing fsb = 250 1:1 and my system got crashed (blue screen and restarted)
i tired doing fsb = 235 and ram = 260 and my system got crashed (blue screen and restarted)
now i have set the fsb = 200 and ram to 250 using 2/2.5 multiplier and runing prime95

http://img68.imageshack.us/my.php?image=032320061546335kj.png

also the smartguardian is showing some values in RED color?..
the values are sometime white and sometime red. check the screenshots for the voltages
in the smartguardian i see atx 5.0 volts dropping to 2.00.is this normal?

p.s thans a lot for recommending me the utlities..

Maybe you got a bad OC'er. I once had a 3200 that would barely run stable at 2.2ghz, 1.5v, and the load temps were in the 40's with a zalman 9500.

Have not heard that mobo being to hot for oc'ing. Only thing to do is bump mem and cpu voltages..and run a divider.

Look at your ram voltage in that screenshot. that is your problem mate.
no wonder. crank up the vdimm to 2.7v at least. what kind of rams are they any way. look at the spec and adjust the vdimm to it. you will be in a new world of overclocking after you increased the vdimm voltage.

Edit: and your 5v rail is undervolting. need to be 5.12-5.15v
Yah the LDT is too high, NB is too high, vbat is too high, vdram too low, 5v rail too low
are you sure about that monitoring device you have?
what does bios shows?

i jus failed my prime95 with 2.0 ghz and ram at 250 using 2/2.5...
I have set the ram at 2.7 and using the smartguardian i see it dropping to below 2.0(dram),..
I am a noob at this ..so I am guessing my powersupply is messed up and it is not providing the correct voltages...
*heading to bestbuy

Grrr!
stupid smartguardian was showing wrong voltage values... got the antec power from best buy still could helpwith oc..
this is new screenshot using motherboard monitor
http://img160.imageshack.us/my.php?image=032320062221163gg.png

I am also failing prime95 after putting new G.SKill DDR 4000 ... with CPU = 200*10 and memory = 250 , 2/2.50
I am confused that is that ram is bad or mobo is not letting it do it...Ido not have a floppy drive and can not run memtest...

The MBM5 still showing low 5 volt rail. you need to first fix the monitoring software then we can help. set the ram to 200 or 166. what is 250?, is that a divider of some sort?
the vdimm still too low maybe.
Look in Everest under sensor to see the voltage rails, fan speed, vcore voltage, and use cpuz to see the ram spd and timings
Man, you have a lot to learn. It is easy once you know what's what. But you have long ways to go yet.
read the overclocking guide here and then do your tweaking.
Its hard to give you any suggestions when your gauges are all mixed up.
sorry to be little abrupt, but you need to do better than what you are showing and asking advise for it.

yes in the process of learning OC stuff ... its fun

wull i think I solved the ram problem... I have set it to 2T and (G.SKill tech told me to use 2T) ..runing prime95 >2hrs..
Right Now
CPU = 10*200 = 2.0Ghz and RAM = 200*2.5/2 = 250 mhz 3-4-4-8
I am using motherboard monitor 5 ..do not know if there any better software to check for the voltages...

once I verify the ram is working using prime95 ... I will try solving the voltages problem and test some other PSU

UPDATE:
Failed Prime95 after 3 hrs... doing RMA of my new g.skill ddr 4000..

here is Systool, a good monitoring utility that will show components temp. in task bar and wont use any screen space and clutter the browsing. It has some cpu tweaking that you can change the vcore, and multiplier.
also has a memory timings setup similar to A64 tweaker.
just be careful w/ the "finding cpu highest FSB/HTT" option, because it can cause cpu overheating and lock up.

well i tried different power supplier and even different ram(even though i was not oc ram) i could no break the 2.35 ghz.barrier .
i bought g.skill ddr 4000 but i was not able to run it on my system stable.same ram.runs stable on my friends computer so there is some problem with the mobotherboard ..
anyway i returned my ddr 4000 2x1Gb and got Patriot Signature 2x512mg and actually i am getting better frame rates..
2.35 ghz is not bad since i got the processor for $100 ...
thanx everyone for the help..
