I have an AMD 64 3200+ on an Asus A8N-SLI motherboard with 512x 2 (1gb) Corsair XMS PC3200 DDR what would be the best settings in hope to overclock this?

I'm using the stock CPU fan/heatsink and my Antec case has 4 sufficient cooling.

I already read the quick and dirty A64 thread and I didn't understand a word of it so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If its a Winchester core (u can check it in cpuz), then u can crank up the fsb speed to 250 (point out the multiplier to be 10). Keep the voltage at 1.40. I hope it will run at stock voltage....it should, if not crank it up a little. Then run the dram at 333 (check the timings by yourself, which suites the mobo and the ram....u should be able to keep it 2.5-3-3-7....at least). Keep the cooln'quiet off. Run the hypertransport at 4X. Reboot....VIOLA....!!! you did it...!! its running at 2500mhz........
Now benchmark ur system and run the stability tests...(u can use memtest, Everest, 3DMARK 01',03' and 05', and of course prime95. Make ur system stable and then go for more....................BEST OF LUCK
P.S. - Always keep ur eye on the thermal issues. Try to keep it under 48 degrees in high load. If possible change ur cpu cooler to a better one than the stock. Though I've heard that it runs quite smooth at 2.6 in stock(Better be safe than sorry ;) ). Also check whether ur case has some good cooling.

My AMD 64 is a Winchester core. Here is some other information also, I don't know what you meant by 2.5-3-3-7 so here is some of the information that was posted in CPU-Z.

Currently
Corespeed: 2100.5 MHz
Multiplier: x10
HTT: 210.0 MHz

Memory
Frequency: 210.0 MHz
FSB : DRAM: CPU/10
CAS# Latency: 3.0 clocks
RAS# to CAS# Delay: 3 clocks
RAS# Precharge: 3 clocks
Cycle Time (Tras): 8 clocks
Bank Cycle Time (Trc): 12 clocks
DRAM Idle Timer: 16 clocks

Under the CPU configuration page in bios set the HTT multi to 4x
Under DDR config page make sure "max mem clock" is set to AUTO or DDR333

Under the JumperFree page in bios change the HTT to 250mhz, and change the CPU volts from Auto to 1.5

Leave everything else the same. Reboot

Test stability with Prime95 torture test (free download). If it tests out at that speed, increase HTT a few mhz at a time, testing as you go.

Windows booted up with the bios settings at:

HTF 4x
FSB 250 MHz
Multiplier x10
CPU Voltage 1.50
DDR 333 3-3-3-8

But Prime95 only runs for about 2 seconds before it stops. I've never used this program before so I'm not sure if this is normal?

Update:

I dropped the FSB to 240 MHz and it seems stable for the most part, I was playing World of Warcraft with no problems. How long am I supposed to run Prime 95 for to determine if my system is stable.

CPU Temp 43c on full load
Motherboard Temp 48c

Try bumping the FSB back up to 250mhz and bumping the CPU voltage up to the next setting. Your best OC on a 3200 Winnie will be at ~1.50v-1.55v Vcore. Also try bumping chipset voltage by .025v-.05v or so, which can sometimes stabilize a system when HTT is over 800, and can also stabilize persnickity RAM in some situations.

I am running my 3200 Winnie at 2.58ghz with stock HSF at 1.65v (1.62v actual). Temps never exceed 43C under full load (StressCPU, Prime95, StressPrime, HeavyLoad, etc.). Close-ish to FX-55 speeds for under $200. I can't wait to watercool the ah heck and see what it can do.

OCZ PowerStream 420ADJ
Chaintech VNF4 Ultra
3200+ Winnie
1GB Corsair VS
Chaintech 6600GT 574/1062 w/stock P.O.S. HSF
80GB Seagate 'cuda

what is this 4x HTT you guys speak of? How is that different from auto? because I have been running on auto at 260x10 on my venice at 1.5v. will the 4x help me OC further? there is also an option for 5x, is that even better to use?

The A8N-SLI doesn't have adjustable chipset volts:( . But I've never had a problem and can run HTT up to 322mhz:)

HTT 200 x 5 HTT multi = 1000 HT. You should always keep it around 1000 or below. Your sytems will become unstable at 1050-1150 depending on your board. So you should always use 4x from 215-255mhz, and once you pass 255 use 3x. As long as HT is in the 700-1050 range, the effect on performance is very very little.

I,m not sure how the AUTO setting functions.

oh... maybe this would help me OC a bit more... let me test this out :) *prays for 2.8ghz*

i did a quick test and got 275x10 3x to run pi 1M in 33 sec... lets hope prime holds up

Yeah, 2.8ghz may be a little to much to ask of a 3200+. I can barely get 2.8ghz with my SD3700+. But if you can get 2.7-2.75 thats a fantastic overclock for a 2ghz chip:D

Some people say 24hrs or its not completely stable. I run it overnight 10-12hrs, thats more stress than I would ever put on a system in normal usage.

Ya it is kinda insane how the pcper review got 2.8ghz on STOCK voltage... must be the ABBLB chips doing it

edit: what is a safe voltage to run my venice 24/7?

What would you guys consider a safe voltage maximum for the AMD 64 Winchester cores?
