I'm building a new computer and I saw that MonarchComputers has all the MODs I want with only a slight increase in price and for $18 they will test the system for me.
I went to put in the CPU I wanted which is the amd 64 3200+in box with fan and this pop up box came on saying that they can't gareentee which version of the smd 64 3200+ I will get. As in eaither I will get the 512 or the 1mb, but 90% of there stock is the 1mb. This motherboard is sockit 754.
I was just wanting to know is there a really big deal between the 512 or the 1mb or which on is better?

Here's what I"m putting together:

Pre-Tested and Setup AMD Athlon 64/Sempron (754) Barebones System $18.00 $18.00
Case: 100559 - No PS - Logisys CS888CL Clear Acrylic Cas $69.00 $69.00
Power Supply: 100117 - PS 520W - OCZ OCZ520ADJ PowerStream PS $122.00 $122.00
Motherboard: 110456 - Asus K8N-E Deluxe Audio/GB-LAN/USB/IEEE/S $137.00 $137.00
Processor: 120736 - AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (Retail Box-w-Fan) $214.00 $214.00
Heatsink Fan: None
Thermal Grease: 800018 - Shin-Etsu G675 Thermal Grease (Cools CPU $13.00 $13.00
Memory: 140693 - DDR (400) 3200 - 1 GB (2 pcs 512) OCZ (OC $179.00 $179.00
2nd Memory: None
Warranty: 800037 - Motherboard-CPU Warranty - 6 Month

Far Cry Promotion: 270846 - FREE Full DVD Version of Far Cry - $39.95
Subtotal for 800075 with your selected options: $752.00

any advice or sujection are very welcome. I'm really new to this...and I do have a budget...and this isn't even including a video card....I'm really not wanting to go over $700...but let me know what you all think.

Don't know from personaly experience, but I've heard some bad things about the pre-built systems from them, much of it on these forums. Everything from not taking off the plastic cover of the HSF (which subsequntly melts onto the processor when turning on) to not applying proper thermally conductive materials between the processor and HSF. Do thorough research before buying.

also, the newcastle core (512K) is faster at stock speeds (unnoticably tho), and the clawhammer (1mb) will be faster if you overclock because of it's performance in clockspeed to cache ratio. the newcastle has an extra 200mhz added to it to make up for the loss of 512k cache.

i think you should build your own the manufacture info is pretty good at showing how its done here is my .02 cents on a computer

computer case http://www.newegg.com/app/view...=11-124-106&DEPA=1 $58
cpu A64 3000 http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=19-103-486&depa=1 172
motherboard http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=13-180-061&depa=1 $99
hardrive http://www.newegg.com/app/view...=22-152-015&DEPA=1 $96
memory http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=20-145-450&depa=1 $222
video card http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=14-131-279&depa=1 $159
dvd rom http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=27-131-118&depa=1 $28.50
total cost is 835 dollars and this is with a very good video card if this is to much than use this
hardrive http://www.newegg.com/app/view...=22-152-018&DEPA=1 $69
video card http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=14-131-221&depa=1 $119
so with this cheaper card and smaller hardrive it would be 767.00

if thats to much u could use this processor
http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=19-103-452&depa=1 142.00
so with a lesser HD and a cheaper vid card and this processor ur total would be $ 737.00
so the best of the 3 is $835.00
the middle $767.00
the bottom $737.00

Seems like a nice system you've picked out. The power supply choice you have, seems kind of expensive to me..I'm not an expert at Athlon 64 systems but I don't see why you would need that expensive of a power supply.

And of course the case is a subjective matter; if you like the clear case that's fine, but you could save quite a bit of money going with a different case and power supply.

As far as Monarch computers goes, I consider them one of the more reliable places to get parts, I wouldn't hesitate too much about buying an assembled system from them if I was in the market for that.

the only reason I didn't..was becasue I was still tring to keep some cost down..but I havem spending a lot already..but I was trying to save where I can...but I'm still honeslty going to sleep on the deal....I think I might try to make it cheaper yet.
