AMD 580/570 8gb or 1060 6gb for X plane 11?

Been looking for a new GPU for my PC for flying flight simulators. I wanted as much ram as possible to load textures ect. Speed is important but I don't have the $$ for a Titan now :~ So I found out the AMD's 580 and 570 has 8gig versions. I'm thinking this is pretty close to the Nvidia 1060 but with more Ram? which is really want I want and for $250 seems like a good deal for a close to a 1060 card with 2 more gigs of ram?

Yes, both cards are neck and neck. Grab whichever one is cheaper, but do take a look at the AIB implementation, XFX is usually known and good quantity, but they have had some dud models. Some games the 1060 will be faster (especially UE4 games, such as Fortnite or PubG), some others Radeon will be faster, so perhaps take that into account as well.

What resolution? What flight sim games will you be playing? Flight Simulator X, X-Plane 11, etc.? Flight Simulator X doesn't need a powerful GPU to begin with, and I don't think X-Plane 11 requires that much GPU power either.

The cards you're showing us are both on sale with the 580 only being $10 more expensive than the 570. If you can swing $10 more, then get the 580. It is better than the 570 in that regard.

Otherwise, if they weren't on sale, then I'd suggest going for the cheapest (which would be the 570).

I don't play flight sims, but if they're recommending 8 GB for the highest detailed textures, I'd go with the 580 8GB. If someone has experience with the game, perhaps they could give more insight.

Looks like you can easily get away with a 570 4 GB. But since the 580 is on sale for only $10 more (judging by your links), you might as well swing towards the 580.

If your main game benefits from the extra vram the 8gb 580 is the obvious choice. Not sure if this is the case with your game, but games with user created assets often chew up the vram. Cities skylines mods are an example that spring to mind.

Very happy with the recent one I bought although I did underclock and undervolt a bit.

Yea you can find a few different requirements from their site some left over from X plane 10. it really depends on how realistic you want to be of course for my requirement the more vram.

yea Vram is what I'm looking for. Just curious why did you do the underclock and undervolt?

Actually for the orthographic scenery I'm looking for "they" recommend 8+. In that case the more the merrier. Be kind nice if you could add ram to you GPU like your CPU. I think they use to have that in the very early days of GPU's

Undervolting Polaris GPUs helps to reduce both power draw and temperatures. The 480/580 and 470/570 come out of the box with high voltages up to 1.2 volts, which ended up being rather unnecessary since there isn't much overclocking headroom on these cards. Some people with Polaris cards keep the voltages at around 1.1 v or 1.06 v, and it remains stable even at such voltages.

AMD has ReLive, which is pretty similar to ShadowPlay for built-in gameplay recordings. It's already built into their drivers, so no need to download anything else.

In general, when choosing between RX 580 8GB and GTX 1060 6GB I would recommend buying the one that is cheaper. At the moment that seems to be the 580. If you know the games you play will benefit from the extra VRAM on the 580 that makes the choice just that much easier.

Basically the 580's miss the optimum part of the power/performance curve. Underclocking slightly allowed me to undervolt a lot. I now have a card that uses less power, performs around the same (as it never moves from the boost clock under load) and is quieter. Not necessary with these cards though, especially if you get one with a nice cooler.

I still use my GTX 970 for X-Plane 11. I run it @ 4K. Get FPS in the 40fps range and it can dip to high 20's. With flight sims you only need 30fps. It doesn't seem to matter much if you run X-Plane 11 @ 1080p, 1440p or 4k. It doesn't scale the same as most games requiring significantly more power to push more pixels. I would still suggest an 8GB card but the emphasis for X-plane 11 is on the CPU. You probably really need an intel i5 or i7 K processor Oc'd for best performance. Or a Ryzen @ 4ghz.

I don't know how it's relevant what I'm going to say for X-plane, because I am using P3D, but in my case the real benefit of more Vram is in more detailed trextures and no pop in and not in higher resolution. Also P3D is not well threaded and again that may not be with X-plane, but I suspect that they behave similarly.

If you play DCS, it uses every available bit of VRam you have. Recommended spec is a 1070. It also requires 16GB system RAM (I can vouch for that when I upgraded from 8GB).

I have a 3GB 1060 that I've been waiting to upgrade for a while now and give to my son to replace his GTX 950. The 8GB RX 580 is about $65 CDN cheaper than the 6GB 1060 right now (MSI card). I still think both are grossly overpriced, but I don't really want to spend another $200 for a 1070 when I game at 1080p. The only thing holding me back is the power and heat problems I've read about with Radeon cards, and the sometimes wonky drivers. That, and the fact they may plummet in price here right away when the RTX cards ship and the black friday sales begin in Nov. Suggestions?

I'm assuming that's $US which doesn't do me any good. I also won't buy a used card unless it's a lot cheaper than that as it may have been punished with mining. This RX 580 is almost $50 cheaper than the closest 1060:

The suggestion was for bobo, and reputable Heatware traders disclose if the cards were used to mine. I have yet to have a part I bought from another member fail on me, in well over a 100 trades, so my anecdotal experiences=excellent. Hence I never hesitate to save some bank by buying from other members here.
