AMD 555 unlocked or not....

So I got a new x2 555 for a buddy's bday and wanted to see if I could get the 2 cores unlocked. I up'd the voltage to 1.4 and set the ACC to Auto and switched EC Firmware to Hybrid.

The unit reboots and shows that the CPU is a b55 but when I attempt to boot into windows it gives me a BSOD of 0x0000001A.

Does this mean that the 2 cores are unstable?

When I disable the 2 cores I can raise the Multipler and get a 3.6 GHz OC and runs at 45c.

Any advice on what this could be? Should I just reinstall windows to verify?

The cores are disabled for a reason enabling faulty cores will cause system instability. Just because you can unlock them dosent mean they will work correctly. There may be something physically wrong with them some people get them to boot into windows, but even then there is no guarantee. Just overclock it and be happy with your dual, that is what is guaranteed by AMD.

Looks like you lost.

One thing you could try, if the mobo is capable of it, is unlocking only the third core, but leaving the 4th core disabled. Or if that doesn't work, disable core 3 and unlock core 4.

Thats exactly what I was thinkin and why the purchase was made, knowing about the risk that was involved.


My buddy and I both have the same board which is the Gigabyte 790x-ud4p, seems like there were a lot of options in the ACC menu, how would one check about unlocking one or the other?

BTW, I do have another question for y'all would it be better in the long run to buy a tri-core and OC it up the 555's level? i.e. 3.2GHz or more?

there is a ton of information out there, your question has been asked dozens of times. do some google searches, tell us what you find then come back and post specific responses.

check on hardforum they have a nice laundry list of what to do to successfully unlock.

WEll I did more searches and none of them helped me understand where the option for the manual core enable/disable options were so I went ahead and just spent more time poking around. Come to find out that the manual core enable/disable option is not seen in the ACC menu until after the machine reboots from enabling ACC!

So upon further testing, I was able to disable the 4th core and get into windows!
I already set the CPU voltage to 1.4 so I figured I'd push it a little more and got the CPU to 3.8GHz and so far has run prime95 for a good 15 minutes with no issue.

Everest reports, as expected, that individual core temps can't be seen but it gives me a temp of the overall cpu and its hovering right at 50c. Being new to the OC scene, is this temp pretty safe to be at with the CPU Clock/Voltage I have going?

As long as that cpu temp is correct you should be fine. I wouldn't push it much higher though as the core temps are almost always higher than the cpu temp read out.

So, you're running 3 cores at 3.8ghz? Any screen shots yet? That's a pretty good OC and your voltage is just fine where it's at. In fact I'd say that voltage is impressive for that OC.

Yup that is correct.

Did a 3dMark06 with the system in my sig cept for this tri-core and got a score of 16441.

3dmarkvantage crashes when it starts the 2nd cpu test.

See if you can get over 4ghz as a dual core. It appears the 3.8ghz wall has broken to where C3 steppings are hitting 4ghz in 64 bit mode...

Edit: I have a tweaky Sempron 140 cpu that I simply mess around with. I can unlock it to a dual core and get it to 3.8ghz stable. But when I try 4ghz is just won't stablize even with even more voltage added.
