AMD 3750 AGP

Can anyone provide me with info regarding this card? I saw it mentioned in another thread but I personally cannot find any info on it.

What is the projected power requirements for this thing?

Also: what is the projected price? Cheaper than 120USD or no? (I can get a 7600GT right now for that much).

Hmm... Never heard of an AGP version of the 3870. Even if it existed, I'd doubt it would be under 200 dollars. PCI-E versions are around 250. Taking account of how much an AGP version would cost ... I'd guess it would be around 300 dollars.

I doubt it would be worth getting one even if they do come to light , why not take a look at the AGP 1950 Pros or the disguised 7900s?

What specs are your rig btw?

It would seem so ,though the X1950 Pro is way faster than the 2600XT & only £10 more (PCIE versions) so no point getting that one.😛 (assuming the price gap stays the same for AGP versions).3850 is another story ,depending how much that'll be.

i'm still trying to figure out if a 2600xt is any good. with its new drivers, its outperforming the 1950 on newer games but what about older games??

The "heaviest" game I play is CS:Source or Half Life. My 6800GT is already CPU limited...

I'm curious at to why you're looking at a new card then?

No it's not. I had 3.4C and 6800GT. I upgraded to C2D with the same card and I saw no fps increase at all. 6800GT is limiting your fps.

Your are right , you will see a huge gains with a newer AGP card. The only thing I'd be wary about are some problems some are having with AGP 1950's...

Well I don't even want to spend that much.

I was about to get a 7600 "GT" superclock from eVGA for like 110USD, but turns out it's actually false advertising... it's only a 7600GS that's overclocked.

I don't want to spend over 120USD tbh.

You can pick up an HD2600 Pro AGP for under 100$ USD at Newegg

I needed a quick replacement for my AGP and picked up a VisionTek HD2600 Pro for ~100$. Definatly a step down from the X1950 XT, however, I needed to be rid of the AGP ball and chain that was sucking my wallet and time dry.

No chance ,the 1950 Pro is about 25-50% faster* than the 2600XT ,see here for examples
& here

*Oblivion on ATs review,(but not THG) seems to be the exception as does Rainbow 6, wierd 😕 but then the 2600XT isn't significantly faster ,interesting that the 8600GTS closes the gap on the 1950Pro in those games too)

What games do you see the 2600XT being faster? 😕

Why not get a 2nd hand card from ebay? I just bought an AGP X800 Pro (with 16 pipe mod) for £36🙂 ,maybe one of those or a 2nd hand 7600GT? (or faster).
You can get decent older cards for a good price (at least here in the UK ,don't see why not elsewhere) ,just avoid the top models in any range as they often go for silly money .e.g X800 XTs are usually a fair price but the XT PEs usually are not!

finally a SMART move by AMD...

1. Their cards are inferior... this gives them instant superiority in a certain niche market.
2. Selling to an AGP diehard makes the customer feels they are looked after by AMD, gurentees next purchase is AMD.
3. AGP being obsolete it gives a VERY VERY short lifespan to these cards.. Very high chance the buyer of these cards will buy another AMD card very similar to his current one in 6 monthes or so when they finally DO upgrade... (nahalem anyone?)

seeing as how AMD/ATI's current driver support for AGP is a bit iffy.. I'm not sure I'll be looking forward to the 38xx's on AGP (most AGP owners on XP are having issues with latest drivers).

Because they're used, that's why! I kinda want to keep this system for as long as possible (another 3 years even). I want the next card I get to last at least that long.

Sorry to break it to you but a P4 3.2ghz + 1 gig of ram is long ago obsolete and too slow for any modern games; so there is no way it'll last another 3 years unless you play games on Low at 640x480 🙂 Even if you paired it with a GF9, it wont do you any good. You should consider a full system overhaul and stop wasting $ on AGP cards.

Well, we all know that the Pentium 4 is the worst CPU for gaming (except in multi threaded scenarios) but is not slow either, I remember sometime ago that appopin post an article showing the CPU scaling among videocards and showed that even an Athlon 64 3200 is able to show decent gaming performance across the board. I guess that the most limiting factor it's the low amount of RAM that he got. Very few games are multi threaded and with a RAM and videocard upgrade and a mild overclocking he should do okay, why does he have to get rid of his system if he feels happy with it? I don't understand that concept of making hardware makers rich buying hardware every 3 months and think that's obsolete after a short usage.
